well theres caulk on the outside by the siding and the window and theres supposed to be caulk on the window itself between the house and window. rain could be seeping in from the top of the bottom window. Even a minuscule hole in the caulk above the window will cause a leak or if its pooling up on the top of the window and a pinhole is there the water will drain into it.

    That's not a bad idea!
I honestly don't know how that upper window is flashed in or how I'd be able to tell without cutting into the frame. I've never dealt with windows that didn't have an actual frame that could be removed and replaced without doing sheetrock work. The windows are also fairly flush with the outside hardiboard and that gutter is only over the garage, it doesn't come anywhere close to these windows.
I'll check again and run a quick bead over any portions that even look funny.

The weird thing is that this just randomly showed up. Yesterday it poured rain for hours and I never saw any sign of moisture whatsoever.

Just making sure I have this straight , is there no head flashings over your windows on the exterior and just siding caulked to the window frames ?

What size tile do you plan on cutting? And for personal use or plan on making money with it?

Anybody done shiplap on a kitchen ceiling?

Closing on a house in a few weeks, kitchen needs to be redone. Planning on taking the drywall off the ceiling to sister up the ceiling joists and run ducting for a hood vent.

I'm hoping to use some 1x5 shiplap that I can have for free, but not sure if I can just slap it onto the framing. I'm thinking I either need to put up some 1/4" sheetrock or staple up some sort of moisture barrier before I nail the boards up.

Not sure about NY but here in Denver I’d just pull off the drywall, do what you need for the hood and then shoot up the ship lap

Personal use. About 300 sqft total. Ceramic/porcelain tiles not natural stone. Largest tiles will be 12x24.

Do you have a floor above the kitchen or is this just an attic space above the kitchen?

I’m assuming how you put it there is nothing above the kitchen.

    Congrats on the new house!

    Thanks!

It's just attic space, I'll be adding an access door for it too as there's currently no way to get up there.

Home Depot has a decent Ridgid 7” saw that will rip 24” tile, locally I think sell for 275ish?

I would wall board the ceiling. Not that it would make a huge difference but I would want to insulate the attic space well and I just feel better knowing the wallboard is there to hold in the insulation and its not on the shiplap.
I always think of the next honeowner coming in and assuming the shiplap was over the previous celing and just going for it and taking it down.

Plus depending on the moisture in the space the shiplap may expand and contract leaving small gaps.

Thanks for the reccomendation. Have you used this tile saw?

I'll try to get pictures of the outside next weekend when I'm home. Working out of town during the week for the past 5 months makes getting things done impossible.

replaced my storm door on the mudroom. I still need to trim out around the door as im going to match it to the front window trim.

Once i replace that window with the one i got last weekend those rocks are leaving as well from under the window. Also the bushes in front of the mudroom arent going to be there much longer either.

    Highly recommend this guy: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-7-i...qSc8vK7_976i2eQF8qemFCOEV3VCO_54aAp_4EALw_wcB

Picked up an open box store return for cheap before my last bathroom renovation. The thing is great.

before that I used this: https://www.lowes.com/pd/SKIL-7-in-...G75zjw3_L1I-WTHNifWGZZ-G76QHkbrEaAgEDEALw_wcB

I bought it about 5 years ago before doing my first kitchen floor. didn't want to put a lot of money out on a tool I wasn't sure I'd get a lot of use out of. 4 kitchens, 8 bathrooms, and a bunch of backsplashes later it's still kicking. Upgraded to the kobalt because most of the tile I was cutting was 24" and I was running out of prayers to say before cutting them. Good little saw - I left it outside for 8 months and it still works fine.

Nothing fancy but made a gate to keep the pup in the kitchen with outside doggy door access. Cedar and some 2x4s I had lying around.
