Use a putty knife and get all the paste off after you remove the wallpaper. Wash it down with scotch guard. Any paste left will look like hell after you paint. It might even look good just after you paint but down the road no.

If you're just patching joints and holes, spackle works better as it shrinks less.

We plan on leaving it. It isn't panelling. It is tongue and groove wood (about 3/4" thick).

The glue on my walls came off easily with dif. I just sprayed a little on, wiped it with a sponge and it came right off

Started to excavate this slope in the back yard to put a two tiered retaining wall. Scheduled plans went foul ball when I found that the dirt is caked and full of rocks/mini boulders! I rented a mini Kubota tractor/excavator which didn't handle it too well but did make a dent in the excavation percentage. I'd like to bring in a bigger excavator but am limited because i have about 62" of clearance between my house and surrounding property fence lines. May have to just suck it up and muscle it. Anybody ever try taking a jack hammer to break up hard soil?

If I never see wall paper again, it will be too soon. The original base layer of wall paper was applied to to an unsealed wall and is taking everything off with it. Bought "Gardz" to seal everything up then time for some skim coats!

I hate wall paper removal. If it's on good I just skim coat the seams and prime and paint.

Anyone have any advice for installing black pipe for a gas line? Ill be starting that project this weekend and it seems like getting the pipe from the meter, through the wall, and tight to the basement ceiling is going to be tricky. Everything after that should be a breeze.

I figure ill buy a bunch of elbows and short pieces of pipe.. Whatever they have from 1" to 2' long

I did that for my whole house I really hate wallpaper.

For repairing and skim coating the instructions are all here
    http://www.drywallschool.com/protips.htm

I washed the walls after I got the wall paper off then I ran an electric finish sander smooth everything out before I did the skim coating. Make sure you get as much as you can off because when you skim coat it will come off and make it a pain in the butt to get a nice smooth finish that needs minimal sanding. I used a drywall sealer/primer combination before I painted. I would in your case use the sealer AFTER you finish all the drywall repair and skim coating not before like it sounds like you are planning to do.

Thanks for the link! It will definitely be a good resource to use...I do plan on sealing before skim coating to ensure the areas on the drywall where the outer paper ripped off do not have a negative effect on the joint compound (would rather the mud adhere to a sealant than the exposed paper fibers). Seal the entire wall with one coat, skim coat a few coats to the best of my ability, then seal again (most likely two coats) to ensure the primer and paint are not sucked up by the compound.

Most likely a little overkill, but I would rather do an extra step than have shitty/bubbled walls.

New header and expanded doorway 3-feet. Took all day but leveled out floor and really opened up the"feel" to the room. Relocated bunch of wiring and boxes - the builders in the 70s must of been high with how they originally wired the house. Instead of coming up through the floor with the wiring, they came down from the ceiling, makes for quite a bitch when trying to move outlets over three studs.

Built my island cart today. I still need to stain it and add a butcher block top to it. I'm going to try the Steel Wool and Vinegar to stain it. It's made of redwood.

It's easier to go overhead when there is no drywall on the framing

Well you learn something new everyday. I've never seen it done that way before - our old house wiring ran along the
floor joists in the basement then up the studs. Seems a lot easier when trying to move wire, don't have to cut ceiling observation holes.

This is what is great about this forum. After reading this, researched code books and glad I found some info. Intent was to hide behind wall with metal plate to keep screws from going in, now the plan is to move box forward and get blank white face plate. Thanks for the tip!
