That's usually how I make long cuts. Although if I actually tried it on my doors I'd cut into the hollow. Cheap ass cookie cutter house doors.

Yeah, you usually don't have more than 1" of solid on a hollow core.

Anyone have a negative opinion of this little guy? Planning on using it in an upstairs bathroom that has been redone.

just as long as theres enough height/clearance to give you sealing pressure, prob would work. Ive never used those though...

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I have that in the bathroom. I got it because we were remodeling the bathroom and I needed to remove and reseat the toilet every day for about a week. Worked flawlessly and is still sealed after over a year.

Just curious, do you use a wax ring with those blue extenders? Wasn't sure if it takes the place of it or not...

+1 I've used them for the same reason - ability to reseat the toilet multiple times during projects. Never had any problems.

Laid some decking on the back porch and am now finishing up with final couple of boards. There's about an inch gap under the siding where the board isn't going to butt up. I don't really want to rip a board just to get an inch runner since these puppies weren't cheap. I'm afraid that much of a gap will just trap too much crap and trap moisture leading to problems in the long run. What do y'all think?
There's flashing all the way to the siding cut out

You should have put j-channel in before the last board

I got that in the wrong order... Pull the piece of siding off, put the j channel in, then reattach the siding. The deck board should be fine in place.

Does j channel go on hardi siding? And I haven't set that board in stone yet. I was waiting to get a game plan first. But you don't see a problem with that gap between the final board and the house?

That I don't know. I thought it was vinyl. :anonymous:

No, drip cap slides behind Hardie, over the top of ledger board (typically you want to tape the channel to the Tyvec). Deck board sits on top. J channel is for vinyl.

Check and see if your deck board manufacturer makes a wider version. Typically 6" nominal width x 5/4, see if they make an 8" and rip it down to whatever final width you need. An inch gap is that no-man's land visually. Too narrow to rip a final piece, too wide to go without.

    Haha no worries.

I will have to check to see if Trex comes in wider. Yeah I'd have to rip a 1" strip off of an $80 board just to close it up. That doesn't fun to me!
