Our code requires all the exterior electrical boxes to be the style with integral gasket too

Well that looks like a lot less of a pain in the dick than I thought. I’m already half way there with the top removed on mine.
    Thank you! :fistbump:

I probably could have done a little research before posting but figured I’d get a second set of eyes on this before I did something drastic.

It came from Lowe's, but I'll check the file cabinet this evening for the paperwork.

my garage was just bare bones, Studs, outer wall. Thats it!
I insulated with fiberglass between the studs more for sound deadening. its a detached Garage, but i can generate some good noise with the grinding, and metal cutting that I seem to do at 10pm ( only time left in the day with two little kids ) and a very nice side effect is that in the winter, it even things out, meaning if the temp swings fast, the garage is slow to react. In the summer, the garage stays cool for several hours in the morning before heating up.

    @cafereef @jsi @Nixinus @ImplicitlyAlberta @anybody else insulating/air sealing ur garage:

Make good n damn sure your garage is outside the house envelope ie no air moving between living space and garage.

Carbon monoxide and other garagey fumes dgaf

Also keep the improvements in mind while you’re starting/running your vehicle lol

Okay y'all. Little update on the 140 year old farmhouse:

The rough cut studs took a bit of firing, but we're finished with the sheetrock and it turned out damn good. Straighter than some new construction I've seen....

    0202191149a.jpg

Sheetrock mudded and sanded and trim going back up....

    0224191644.jpg

Front porch is back together and supporting the roof on its own again. Reworking the flashing and painting the metal roof and it'll be good to go...

    0214191505.jpg

The old girl is now climate controlled for the first time in 140 years....

    0302191446a.jpg

Sanded the heart of pine floors and they turned out better than I ever could have hoped.... This is the same floor that I have 90+ hours in, removing vinyl/asbestos flooring with a heat gun and a putty knife. Looking at this photo makes it all worth it.

    0311191815.jpg

You don't stain floors that look this good......

    0315191812.jpg

The trim is all back up and we're on the home stretch now. Hoping to move in in +/- 4 weeks.......

Dang, I forgot to add what I worked on all last weekend. (And the reason my back still hurts.)

Not original to the house, but we picked up this cast iron clawfoot tub for the master. A little sandblasting, epoxy painting, clear on the feet, and some back-breaking labor to get it upstairs, and I think it looks great.

There are somethings that I am a little OCD about and that's loaded guns and engines running in garages. After a day of shooting I literally lock the ammo in the safe before the guns are cleaned. Even snap caps make me nervous. And when I start an engine the garage door is always open 100%. Even though a well tuned, modern engine emits next to no carbon monoxide.

just added proper insulation to my attic. Originally it was R19 and 16" wide...my spans are 24".

Now i have R38 on top and then criss-crossed and its amazing the difference.

Waiting on my new windows that should deliver tomorrow. It will be like a whole new house once this is finished.

Garage area improvement question: What would be better---dig posts and holes for beams first. Or fill in the dirt level to the shop then dig and put concrete posts? Currently theres a lot of wasted space next to my shop that I cant use due to the side of the hill sloping off just below the shop. Once this mud dries out Im going to have a lot of fill rock/dirt put in next to my shop to give me some extra space I need. It should raise the current dip/hole 5 to 6 feet and make a parking pad area 25-30' wide
