Everything else works in the house. Though there is a switch in the living room that doesn't do anything that we can tell. The hall bathroom is center of the house. The patio is on the rear corner, at least 30 ft from the hallway bathroom. Master bathroom is closest to it and shares a wall, and it's GFCI is working. :notsure:

I'll have to crawl up there (only a small hatch in a closet) and poke around. The house was built in 1988. It was a flip house. A lot of liquid nails under shit. I went to change out a toilet roll holder and a good chunk of drywall came with it, because they liquid nail'd it to the freaking mounting plate. So that has to be patched....

It's one thing after another. Home ownership in a nutshell.:sadviolin:

Yeah, first thing I did was check all the other GFCI's in the house for trips. Nada. All check out. I'll have to pull it from the wall and see if it has some disconnected wires in there.

Problem is, even if it's wired incorrectly, none of those wires are hot.

Id check the master bath GFCI, take it out and make sure its connected. Typically they connect the two for whatever reason.

The living room outlet sometimes is switched on by a lightswitch or half/ one plug is hot and the other is switched. its weird now but was in style back then.

A pic of your Circuit breaker panel may be helpful.

    Makes sense.
It's an OLD Challenger Panel which I need to replace since they are prone to fires anyways. I'll grab some photos tonight when I get home.

EDIT: How weird would it be if I flipped the switch, and my outlet worked....
    Gonna test this for S&Gs.

somehow my wife popped the bathroom GFCI, it went dead so I tested it wouldnt reset. Changed it out and worked like a champ. The outside outlet was by itself and it also died just out of the blue.

Yeah, I just need to figure out why none of the wires in the box are hot.

that is weird. only thing that makes sense to me is the power comes from the Master bath out let GFCI and isnt working there but if its daisy chained down the line should not work either. But you say everything else works in the house so that is weird...

    maybe a sub panel somewhere?

I'm going to have my roof redone in the near future. Regular shingles up there now, but I live in a windy area and am constantly climbing up to flip and tar shingles back down.

So I'm thinking about a metal roof. Anyone have experience with metal? Not the install, will be hiring someone. More like pros- cons of the roof itself.

Indeed. Somethings not right. I just hope it doesn't lead to pulling drywall to find out why.

I love a metal roof...ours is metal. I cant think of any cons other than if you have a woodstove it has to be installed correctly otherwise it will leak. Depending which way the slopes are its going to dump all the snow off at once. Like ours faces the front of the house so when it thaws it piles up in front of the house and makes a 2'-4' ice burm you have to dig through or walk around the sides. Its actually pretty quiet when it rains. I would have thought it be loud but its not.

No snow to speak of here. No wood stove either, although I'd love to have one. I have not had any estimates yet. Figuring the metal roof will be $500- $1000 more than traditional shingles.

I don't know yet. Corrugated panels are what I see most of around here so probably will have to research brands/materials etc.

There's lots of types , corrugated , flat , exposed fastener , hidden fastener , standing seam etc

    All have different costs

Also roof shape makes a big difference too

Found my master was actually tripped. I swear i checked it. Still no power to the outlet but I do have a hot wire on the hot side. Are the hot and ground/neutral wires supposed to be both along the load line marking?

Also here's my panel for what its worth.

Don't forget fire alarms if you have hard wired ones. They can be upstream of the GFCI. I had a wire pop off the wirenut months after changing an alarm and it took me a while to figure it out.

EDIT: you figure it out but I will leave this here for others.
