    What's the best way to cut 4x4s? I may just go at it with a hand saw. I know I won't be able to cut fully with the 10" Kobalt table and I don't own a miter saw. Same boat with the handheld power saw.

    Figured. My circular saw skills are lacking. Tried ripping 4x8 sheet of mdf in half and ended up with a curved cut. :facepalm:

    Clamp a straight edge to the sheet and run your saw along that if you need a straight cut

    For the 4x4 post, use a speed square. This is a good description of the technique:

    I agree with the circular saw and speed square approach. The trick is to rotate the post only 90º after the first cut so that you can align the blade with the cut (saw off), set the speed square, then run the saw again. Repeat again.

    Houses up here have to have basements to get the foundation below the frost line and buyers expect a basement under a house. Also makes it easier to work on utilities if/when something decides to quit.
    Still the best place to be during a tornado is underground! Only been down there once because of weather in 20 years.

    Have had these for years, and I can't break them and they always work. I have craftsman ones that don't tighten, and harbor freight ones that I broke. Get a straight rip of 1/2 or 3/4 ply for the edge, and you are all set.
