You could install a remote shut off for the water above the countertop , thats what we usually do

Unfortunately water shutoff isnt the only concern. Moving the washer in and out will be extremely difficult with the top on as well.

Is there room to make it so you can just flip it up?
A piece of solid surface the size to to cover a washer and dryer with support framing won't be light.

I guess I could do some sort of piano hinge on the back of it, but it would need to come out then flip up as I am planning to do backsplash behind it. The piece is 60x29.

Given the amount of pictures I have seen out there with counter over washer/dryer, I cant believe there isnt a good retail solution for this. There have probably also been a bunch of disaster leak situations.

Maybe a chance for you to come up with a solution and become fabulously wealthy.

Just the piece of material will be about 50lbs at that size (assuming 1/2") and it needs to be supported by some sort of frame or it'll sag. I did my kitchen counters out of it, it's pretty easy to work with if you are familiar with woodworking tools.

We shut off the water whenever the washing machine is not in use. One of the leading cause of house floods is failure of washing machine valves. Like OZ said remote and automatic shut off valves are an option.

Well that depends... is your wife a UFC fighter?

You will need to go with laminate. Quarts is about 60lbs per 2sqft. Solid surface is heavier than laminate but still heavy.

I would just move your water lines. A counter top would not be movable in a pinch perse

This stuff works great IMO...you need to wear goggles and rubber gloves, and apply with nylon brush. Apply and let sit up to 45min. then spray off with pressure washer. 1 gal covers 150 square feet.

Not very often... probably about as often as I shut the water off.

My last job we put remote shut offs above countertop height , then I installed a ledger on the wall on the 3 sides that the countertop would sit on approx 1" above top of machines . I installed a gable between the machines with a large access cut out in the back of it to access the dryer vent . Installed the top , pushed in the dryer and hooked it up through the access panel . Then hooked up washer hoses and slid it in .

Washer takes a couple tries to get levelling right but not too big a deal .

Does your washer/dryer back up to the garage? If so you could just put in an access from the garage side.

Same thing. Remote shut off in the closet behind an access panel*. (*For aesthetics if you want.)

Master bedroom remodel is getting closer to finishing. Drywall was done last Sunday then we painted. Mid week the floor guys dropped off the oak floors to acclimate for installation next week. Today I wired in all the receptacles and thankfully, they worked when I flipped the breaker.

I took advantage of having the walls open and installed two 2 gang boxes on the wall shared with bedroom #2, which will be my office when we move out of it and back into the master. I also installed a recessed single gang box high on the wall where my 43" monitor/TV will be mounted (got a good deal on it during the Amazon crazy sale), along with a box that has HDMI, network and cable connections that run inside the wall down to a matching box below.

Next will be finishing the wiring for the ceiling fan and closet lights. I hope to get that done on Monday...

It will be nice to have it done and have a construction free house for awhile. On a lark we went to a furniture store and found they had a 30% off sale on some Danish Mid Century Modern style furniture. We decided it was time to buy a king bed for our king mattress, as having it on a queen platform bed is getting old.

Insulated the garage door today. Reflectix against the actual garage door skin, ala @GHOST SHIP

Edit: excuse the mess, I'm in the process of doing the floor (dye and sealer) in the 30x40 building that most of this crap will reside.
