We added crown molding and I painted the existing cabinets. I can give you more details if you are looking to do something similar

I painted my master bath cabinets. I pulled them out and painted them in the garage... didn’t turn out regardless of the incredible amount of prep and time I put in.

I think I’m going to hire professional painters to come in and do my kitchen.

I really have no desire to do it myself ever again lol. Its way too much work.

I hear ya. It was a bit of work but definitely doable. There are a couple of key things that will make it successful.

#1 - Prep - Degrease and sand everything! After sanding make sure you wipe the cabinets with a damp cloth to remove dust etc.

#2 - Quality oil base primer. I used a primer from Sherwin Williams. Pro Block Oil Based Primer.

#3 - Sand and wipe down cabinets again.

#4 - Quality self leveling paint. Again I used Sherwin Williams. Actually I used a water-base Urethane. Emerald Urethane Trim Enamel.

#5 - Very Important! Use an HVLP sprayer to prime and paint! Here is the one I used... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003PGQI48/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_vpnsDbCZ9S17H.

The sprayer makes a huge difference. If you follow these steps it will be way cheaper than paying a pro and then you have an awesome sprayer for future projects.

PM me if you need more detailed steps and pics. I’m more than happy to help. I should mention I had a painting business for a few years. This is how I paid my way through college. I don’t know everything but I do have some good experience.

    .

I've painted hundreds of cabinets and swear by this stuff. It's almost $100 a gallon but worth every penny. Spray it on and it's like glass. Even if you brush and roll it levels out incredibly well. Did the same thing to my kitchen. Yours is looking great.

Yes! Some of the best stuff I have ever used and it’s water clean up to boot!

Your kitchen turned out great brother. Thank you for the kind words about my project!

I just paid over $12 a foot for 1”x10” clear vertical grain western red cedar milled to a tongue and groove 1”x 8”. Beautiful wood.

Yes , it's beautiful wood . All that material I posted pics of today is STK (standard tight knot) but I have a 1/2 lift of 6' clear 2x4 cedar

    A thing or two...
I've been creeping this thread for awhile, but I've started house hunting so maybe by the end of the year I'll be a regular. Just about everywhere out here needs some updating and some need a lot.

I did everything about as perfect as I could. Overall the paint did well, except the final texture after curing, its still “tacky” but not too bad. The issue I have is paint coming off on the edges of the drawer fronts where cords from the hair dryer rub. The rest of it is pretty solid.

It was just too much work. It was miserable doing one big cabinet let alone a whole kitchen. Plus I don’t own an air compressor and have never used a paint sprayer. So by the time I’m in on material its like $500 more to pay a pro lol my time is worth so much more than $500. Plus a pro would take a week, I’d take two months (I have two jobs).

The previous owners did a shitty job brush painting them so they are going to be redone and I’m not sure I want to tackle it.

I’m sure being a painter you could handle the project well. You don’t want to see me paint. Paint is errywhere. I still have paint on my kitchen counter from painting my shed LOL

Yours look great. I want to see how your doors turn out!

The floor guys fell behind yesterday and couldn't finish laying down the wood, so they are coming back late this afternoon. He said he wanted to let it sit for a day before sanding, so this put me a day behind as sanding will start Wednesday rather than this morning.

My window showed up a bit early but no biggie - I just temporarily installed it. I had thought there would be too much space around it in the rough opening, but I forgot that after demo I saw there was more space than anticipated so I changed the window dimensions to make it larger. The window company forgot to place my order back in May so a month went by before I found out. Gave me time for demo and to change the dimensions. It was a tight fit so now there is only about 3/8 gap from top to bottom.

That's the paint we used as well. Used both an airless Grayco for the doors and a HVLP gun for the frames. Came out slick

I have to be missing something. What type of paint is it? I read thru the posts here but can not, for the life of me, find the paint brand or type

I know code is different from place to place but can a jack stud be made of more than one piece of wood? I'd like to take the easy road and just add a spacer to install an 80" door over the current 79".
I can change the jack studs if need be but I'm running out of time.

My wife gets home in about 24 hours and she doesn't know I started renovations while she was out. I'm trying to do as little drywall as possible because of all the dust.
