...^^^... Great looking door and the 42" size makes moving things so much easier without trim damage.

It was intended to have a “nickel” gap of an 1/8”. I guess I didn’t describe it well.

Having installed vertical 1x6 T&G v-groove Tight knot cedar on all four sides of a house before and had no issues, I’m surprised by the shrinkage. This is KD VG Clear Western Red Cedar. It is getting full exposure though, zero shade, and is facing perfectly east. It has stopped shrinking, but is close to failure IMO.

Wish I would’ve checked. I had it on site for 2 months before the install. It’s was kept dry, but outside. It was a wet beginning to the summer though. It dimensioned correctly at install, 7 7/8” reveal with 1/8” gap, 8” overall. This is a 20’ wall, the other 100’ of walls are fine. We are considering switching to a lap siding with a 1/2” rabbit creating a 3/8” overlap with an 1/8” “gap” for the barn. This will give us an extra 1/8” of forgiveness, but increase the potential for cupping at the lap. The barn will have a 60’ wall with eastern exposure. All the structures are oriented to maximize the effectiveness of the solar panels, so one wall will always face true east.

So I guess hitachi tools changed name/ownership to Metabo. I found this out today when I was at Lowe’s and found a 12” Hitachi sliding compound miter saw for $260 before taxes

Just a heads up in case anybody’s looking for some good deals on tools.

Y’all probably already knew all this tho lol

Still waiting on the grout to dry before we seal it but I like how it turned out.

Nice job but don’t let toilet flange be too low or you’ll need a spacer or extra thick wax or new style rubber wax ring

The flange is about 1/16” above flush when it’s on the slab, we can shim it up slightly if we need to and our “better than wax” seal kits have a spacer in them as well.

My cousin is a master plumber out of state and said he thinks it will be fine but to pay attention when we put the toilet on and we can shim the flange if needed because it’s a Twist N Set flange.

Plumbing looks like a lot of fun and has many little details but what killed any wishes I had of being a plumber was helping with line replacement from meter to the house, I’m just not a fan of those.
My cousin was telling me that he charges ~$650 to install a toilet (he supplies the toilet) and I bough 2 Toto drakes, seat kits, and seal kits for $605

I thought I had a better photo of the flange but I guess not.

    Sort of home improvement...

HEPA filter change for my Kenmore Plasma Wave room air purifier. Never realize how dirty the filter gets until a side by side with new.

    LED Pool light question.

I talked to an electrician and he recommended I install a 12 v pool light instead of replacing the 120v light I have with another 120 v. I plan to replace the outdoor GFCI and pool fixture anyway, should I go the 12 v route and install a transformer too?

Also any recommendation on led pool light/light fixtures? Pool is 18x40 ft in-ground with only 1 light fixture.

Yesterday: installed window AC unit for the doggy porch, way oversized but is extremely effective for the almost all windows design of the porch.

    This evening:
TV and Sound bar mounted, cable management is up next, in the future Cat 6 will be dropped from the attic (not accessible from the main portion of the attic, we will have to access from outside) as the TV only has 2.4 GHz WiFi and I just can’t push the bandwidth to stream 4K wirelessly on 2.4.
A second cat 6 will be run to the sound bar to access a home media server.

Also, on an outing to the Home Depot today we found these lights that we will be picking up in the near future to illuminate our artwork. (Silver, ceiling mounted)

Whatever you do dont get the white or siliver/chrome ones as the pin sockets for the MR16 lamp burn out both LED and Halogen....Spend the few extra bucks and get a good light fixture.
