Anyone have examples of ways to blend shiplap with existing baseboard trim? I am installing the shiplap on one wall using minimal nails and I dont want to remove any trim so if we ever decide to take it down it will be super easy.

This is an example of board and batten blending. could I rip a row of shiplap to accomlish the same thing?

Hey man I really appreciate your taking the time to think on this one :)

It’s a mess lol I’ll try to clarify.

This is an addition that somebody threw on the house long before I bought it. Roof assembly was 2x6 rafters 16” OC with a ridge board and collar ties. Builder stuffed cavities with fiberglass and nailed paneling underneath rafters for ceiling. you can guess rotten results lol

I jacked roof up with a post/ ridge beam system with 2x12 rafters 4’ OC then I removed rotten top 2’ of original 2x6 rafters and sistered in replacements to nail roof sheathing to. I also replaced top 2’ strip of sheathing.

So now you’re standing underneath looking up at 2x12’s every 4’ with spliced 2x6s between them every 16”.
My plan is to fur the 2x6’s down to the same plane as the bottom of the 2x12’s with extruded foamboard strips. I will then use some sort of batt insulation that will fit inside the resulting 14 1/2” wide cavities and maintain an unobstructed vent path at the top between eave and ridge vents.

So what I really need is an air barrier that will span the 4’ oc underside of the 2x12’s. It will be supported by the 3/4 tongue and groove ceiling that I will nail up beneath it. I was thinking foil faced foamboard taped at the seams would fit the bill but am open to other suggestions lol.

I can take a pic later if that would help visualize it

    thanks again :)

Use furring strips to get the wall portion flush with the baseboard, and then shiplap from the floor up.

Scribe the vertical to the top of the base board. See if you can find a piece of the base, trace it to the vertical end. Or better yet, find a router bit.

taped foil faced rigid foam would be fine or plastic sheet vapour barrier , kinda depends on Local climate as to whether you want a vapour barrier or just vapour retarder , here we would want a vapour barrier

cut verticals with 45 going other direction (long point forward) leaving 1/8" square shoulder to sit on margin between base and cove , caulk and paint

Housing has gotten iNsAnE expensive down there. It used to be cheap moving just a few minutes out of Nashville. Long gone are those days.

In the process of building a Bench Top for the garage, bought 2x3's, drilled holes for threaded rods, cut about 1/4" off so the tops are flat. It is just a dry fit at this point, next up is to glue it all together and sand it smooth after.

Can this switch be replaced with this one or do I need a three way switch? I’m thinking I need a three way. These two switches operate the same hallway light.
