First off, let me qualify this......I AM NOT A WELDER!!! In fact haven't welded since spring semester at Penn State in 1979 - Ag Engineering 005 - stick and oxy/acetelyne only. Never used a MIG welder till this project, except for some practice welds.

Simple design and had my son, who is a senior in Mech. Engineering, work up the angles and lengths for me. I modified them somewhat when actually cutting out my pieces.

    Materials:
    16' of 1" x 2" tubing (1/8" wall)
    4 KB Voodoo mounting brackets
2, 58" Yakima round bars - optional, but I needed for kayak racks
    Grade 8 nuts and bolts
3 cans of self etching primer
3 cans of black semi gloss paint

May yet need to add side braces per Ghost Ship's suggestion.

Total investment is under $275 and around $225 without the Yakima bars.

As I said, I AM NOT A WELDER, so please don't be too critical of them - some have JB weld over top of them in an attempt to 'smooth them out'.

The tonneau cover opens, closes, and locks perfectly!! Used thick rubber and clear silicone caulk all the way around to 'hopefully' waterproof it.

I am sure the side pieces could be modified by length to work with the tri-fold style covers.

That looks wonderful. Is it drilled into the sides or does it attach to the rail? I'd love to see a close-up of the mounting points.

It is attached to the mounting rails. Well, it is pitch black outside now, so I will try to get some pics tomorrow - IF YOU REMIND ME!!!

I've wondered about how I could do a Kayak rail while keeping my gear covered with the tonneau. I have an Extang trifecta that sits over the top. Your design looks like it could fit right under the seals.
