looks like Homelink is AWOL in all but the LTD packages. If you, like me, really like having Homelink there are aftermarket options. 1) a new mirror for ~$300 or an install kit for the headliner for ~250

And then I present you with a thriving aftermarket of perfectly fine used ones yanked from wrecks for $30 on fleabay:

    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...C1.A0.H0.Xgo+pro+.TRS0&_nkw=homelink&_sacat=0

I hate to hack a new vehicle on day 1 so I will probably wait until day 2 but I am going to finf a nice spot for one of these. You can even get ones pulled out of sun visors if that is how you want to go. For $30 the price is right. Now to just find a location ...

Yeah...I'm going to do one better.

I'm not buying a Gen3 until they add it as an option or the dealer gives it up for free.

They can screw themselves and what ever sales and marketing gimmick they have going on right now.

So you are going to not buy a vehicle because they didn't add a $30 part that can easily be added? That is like saying "I'm not going to buy a Lambo because they didn't include floor mats."

    Yup.

$30 adds up. It's already insane that guys are willing to drop $40k on a truck without power seats.

I understand that you don't NEED Homelink or powerseats. But at some point when you're overpaying for nothing (literally nothing since they aren't even addable options) the value is disappears.

I'm not saying I'm not getting one. I'm saying I'll wait until they add it or the dealer install it for free.

You can either play into their game or let them know they screwed up.

If enough people make that stand, they'll make the change. It'll take so many dealers giving it away before they add it back in. Trust me, I sold Toyotas for 7 years. This is their attempt to max out profits on a first release. They'll keep things off they know they'll offer later knowing guys will pay $40k for it just to be an early adopter.

I'm not that guy. I have two new vehicles in my drive way. I can wait it out.

Well if you have 2 new vehicles that is one thing. If it is because of a $30 part, then I would call you crazy.

well I for one will have it added after the fact once they get part numbers loaded into someone's system to order a limited homelink mirror for a 2016. and no I am not going to retrofit a 2015 homelink and pay for that stupid 2" backup display when the 2016 is probably cheaper since it wont have that 2" display.

Getting back on topic here ...

I was trying to find good solid pics of the interior for placement but came up short when looking for drivers left hand side. I also stumbled across a how to on an F150 forum that showed how to add it into the visor. That visor as it turns out, had a spot on the plastic that was stamped to punch out for this exact purpose. I wonder if the Taco visor has the same? That'd be a nice clean way to do the install too.

This has given me the bug - I am going to hack one into my '99 Miata now as well. I'll practice on that.

Really it's a safety issue if you park your car outside. You want homelink.

If you keep a garage remote in your car, its very easy to break into your car and press the remote and enter the garage. Many people even leave their garage entry door to the home unlocked thinking that no one will get into the garage.

Many cars that have HomeLink that will power off the HL when the car is off.

If you have a car with HL that does not power off, its very easy to change the "always on" hot power wire to a switched accessory power wire leave the HL off when the car is off.

In today's society, I'm truly surprised that every car doesn't come with HL with with accessory power standard.

Yep, lot of ways to get a solution. I like HL though for running on switched power as opposed to batteries which makes it more secure and the ability to control other things besides the just the door. But this definitely works too.

I leave my entry door open because I figure if they got into my garage, they have all the tools and privacy needed to get through the door anyway.

I leave mine unlocked so I a justifiable reason to put my Mossberg 500 down their throat. We all have our quirks.

But if I can make that much more challenging for them it'll give me plenty of time to pull then 500T out the safe, set up my lawn chair at the door and wait.

Haha yeah. Guess everyone gets used to different things.
I can't use it anyways because my garage door changes some interior code regularly to prevent from burglery. So the homelink doesn't stay linked

I'm not adding it. Home link pissed me the hell off. It doesn't work with all newer garage openers and requires me to buy a repeater to make it wor . Then that defeats my battery back opener because the repeater is plugged in an outlet.

All seriousness I want home link just know my other truck doesn't work and my wife's old car didn't either.
