I made my own jack stands. Took two 4x6 blocks and bolted them together with some huge bolts. Covered the top and bottom with a Samson Strong-Tie plates. Seems super solid to me or is it sketch. They didn't cost me anything.

Edit: consensus was original design was sketch AF so now it's beefed up with legs. V2

As backup maybe. They are stout as hell but not much tip protection.

If you’re sitting on a dead level surface and there is no possibility that you’re going to be rocking the vehicle back and forth, they will be more than adequate.

most sketchy thing about them is they are only 6” wide at the bottom so they could tip if you’re not super mindful about how you’re using them.

sketch level: 4 (out of 10)

Base doesn't seem very wide. Is your life really only worth $50-$80?

Had a family member use something like this and end up in the ER. I got to watch it happen when I was about 10 years old. Points for creativity of using what you have on hand. Jack stands are a safety item. If it were me, I'd choose a safer tool for the job.

I mean if that is “all you got” I guess that will work.
It’s a bit sketchy. Where are you located?
Surely someone can lend you a set of stands?

I’m in East Tn. You can borrow mine if you are close.

Okay I hear you. I did give the truck a really hard shake for about 5 seconds and everything was solid.

Base is way too small. Tip-over hazard. Compare yours to any standard metal jackstand on the market. All commercially-available jack stands have considerably wider bases. The wider, the better.

Run some L brackets at the bottom and bolt them through to give a little wider base. Otherwise maybe get some cheap husky jack stands like me lol

I like to save a bit of cash where I can also, Paramedics aren't known for being well paid. That being said, I do not cheap out on safety gear. I say sketch, it looks tippy, although you said you shook the truck - you might not set it up perfect every time. Take a second to think about what you are really saving here.

Darwinism at its finest. This just seems like a stupid idea. Go get some harbor freight jack stands my friend.

I've seen sturdier tip. It's not the material, its how big they are.
