Homemade replacement frame?

    Agreed. Just making the point that race car fabricators have different design priorities than OEMs.

    To illustrate the point, when I had my VW, I had my manual transmission rebuilt by a race shop, which ended up being a nightmare. I had to pay a shop to do the R&R, and within 1000 miles of the rebuilt trans being installed, a pinion bearing failed. I got into a stupid argument with the rebuilder because the failure meant I had to pay for R&R once more. During that conversation, he claimed his guys could have a VW transmission on his bench in less than 30 minutes (they would rebuild after every race), to which my local mechanic replied that they must install them with a zipper since they fail so quickly.

    Race car ≠ street car.
