I will just post all of the pictures from start to finish in this thread. Got lucky and grew up a few houses down from a great fabricator. He did some great work for me on this mount.

That looks really good! I like that "hidden" look.

Looks good but id beef up that design with some thicker steel or gussets. The frame horns on the 2nd gens are weak enough as it is. Nice start though!

In this pic, it looks like the winch may eventually pull your mount away from the frame. (vertical yellow lines)

The center of the mounting bolts for the entire unit are about 1.5" below the winch-mount.

But as was said already, great work & a good start on a perfect hidden winch mount..!

Thanks dad but a plasma cutter or drilling doesn't really need any.

I agree that the mount looks thin and flimsy in the pictures I just couldn't get good angles on the shots, but trust me it is plenty thick and the bolts will be fine. I had some guys there who had made plenty of winch mounts for other trucks and jeeps that all held up. Thanks for the view thou

Thanks but the steel was definitely sturdy enough. Just didn't get close enough pictures to tell the depth after I painted everything black. Hard to tell

What thickness steel did you use just curious? Also maybe look into something like the relentless or brute force fab frame tie in plates they use for their bumpers. Not saying your design is weak but rather the Tacoma frame mounts are not the best. Those extra straps will tie the whole mount into the frame about 6" back

I think quarter inch. And yeah that makes sense I'll look into it. There are 8 bolts alltogether the three on the front where the stock aluminum bolted to and then there are two beefy bolts on the bottom that we wrapped the bottom of the plate around to bolt into.

Right, because blowback from a plasma cutter has never happened and that light that you see is all happy, joyful, non-harmful UV radiation. I guess a drill bit has never broken nor a metal shard flown free.

Since you seem to be one of those invincible 20-somethings, this is for free.

    From Miller's website:

Table 1. Eye Protection For Plasma Arc Cutting
Current Level In Amperes Minimum Shade Number
    Below 20 #4
    20 – 40 #5
    40 – 60 #6
    60 – 100 #8

    From Lincoln's website:

    2. Safety gear
Some basic safety practices should be observed. You should read your instruction manual thoroughly to understand the machine. Wear long sleeves and gloves while cutting since molten metal is generated during the cutting process. Eye protection such as dark goggles or a welding shield is required to protect your eyes from the cutting arc. Typically a darkness shade of #7 to #9 is acceptable. Finally, follow all safety tips and guidelines that are detailed in your instruction manual.

Well this went in another direction than intended.

Props on the fab work you've done. It's always fun to tinker and build things!
