Looks like Sunday I'll finally be wrenching her back together.

 

Back in business.

Today was a clusterfuck - from moving a piano to taking fall family pics with the photographer
But after all that was said & done I FINALLY had the time to suit up and get my truck back together.

I first had to take everything we had mocked up apart. More clearance was needed hence the BFH:



I already had the triple stick linkage out so the first move was to drop the FJ case:


The tunnel was pretty hacked up and i still needed a bit more room on the drivers side for the clocked case.
Here's the spot that needs moar persuading:


All better:


Pulled the crawl box next and was finally able to put the elusive oil housing in place. Sucker fit like a glove.


the next task was to clean up and seal the tunnel.




Some RTV for the holes...


A bit of primer.


A couple coats of Rustoleum Rubberized Undercoat.


While that was all drying I turned my attention to the FJ case. Since Jerry & Ant & I had everything pretty much all lined up I needed to seal up the shift assembly and get it finally ready.


With the undercoat still drying I carefully RTV'ed the Crawl Box and bolted it back on the Trans:


Taking the FJ Case out by myself sucked. Putting it back in solo was a test of patience... I basically had to bench-press it with a bolt in one hand and once it was in hold it with one hand and thread the starter bolt with the other. Needless to say I was covered in RTV.
Got the bitch back in though.


Ready to install the driveshaft! However the bolt holes would not line up & I could not move the flange on the third as the rear wheels were chocked & the front was up on stands. I ended up re-installing the triple stick linkage and then simply shifted the FJ case to neutral. I could then spin the flange on the T case and line up the driveshaft.

All bolted up!


It was getting late so I had to call it quits. Tomorrow I'll throw on the front shaft and load the crawl box up with oil. I should then be roadworthy

Hope to get over to Anthony's Monday afternoon to wrap up the wiring and get a crossmember made to bolt the crawl box to.

After that the last steps will be to relo the exhaust and finish up the interior.

It'll be hilarious thr first time you have to take clients somewhere that have ridden with you before and they ask whatthe fuck you did lol

Could you simply shorten the 2wd/4wd shifter to clear the transmission shifter?

I'm an idiot - I had the knobs reversed. It does not like to stay in low on the FJ case, 2 Wheel Drive and four-wheel-drive are not a problem.

 

Got the innards somewhat back together again:









Fixed the worst of the oil leak too, there was an unused bolt hole that was the main culprit - I JB welded a bolt to it.
There's still some minor seeping from the bottom of the crawl box I'll have to address later.


It turns out that the FJ Case low range is just tricky to engage. Once I figured that out I was able to walk it around my house in compound low.

Very pleased to be at this point.

 

I never use the truck for work anymore unless I have to move something big - that rarely happens. I've taken the truck to work maybe 3-4 times this past year.

 

Good stuff Craig! Put the crown shift boots in yet?

 

I have the triple shift boot just sitting in place for now. We need to do some minor adjustments on the FJ case H/L and the Crawl Box H/L for fitment so I figured I'd wait until that's done before finishing that piece off. Also won't do the finished shifter boots until it's all buttoned up right.
