    so that red goat fab relocation bracket is a PITA process, but WELL worth the end result. We went stomping around AOP this past weekend and I could cut full turns left and right, fwd and reverse with no rubbin finally!

    when you get the time I highly suggest knocking it out. shoot me a message if you have questions or anything. its pretty simple and im sure youll have no issues.

    Wheel cylinders shouldn't be affected (unless you damage them removing them doing the job), but his shoes will def need replacing.

    I still can't see the gear oil negatively affecting the rubber boots. But they will likely be fine. When the wheel spins the centrifugal force pulls all the oil outward and when it stops, gravity keeps it away since its on top. I just dealt with a severe leak and fucked rear axle bearing and my wheel cylinder boots were bone dry even after driving on it for a week or two.

    I know the exact problem. The seal has worn a groove into the tapered bearing retainer. Now gear oil gets by, and soon will bebon your drum shoes.

    OEM rear bearings are ~$450, if I remember correctly. As long as that bearing is good, just replace the retainer and the seal.

    Just be sure to inspect for that groove. A new seal alone won't work well or long if that groove is there. Plus, that is a cheap part as well.

    If it comes to it, that metal retainer has to be cut off, if you want to save the bearing. Otherwise they would normally be pressed off together.

    Notch the retainer as much as you can with an angle grinder, then smack dead center of the notch with a chisel and hammer. Comes right off !
    Did my wheel bearings just like this. Be sure to take measurements of where the second retainer goes that the seal rides against.

    I think theirs is a little different from ours though. The photo @Torspd posted shows a ring with a c-clip in front and their ABS ring looks nothing like ours. Either way, that ring that @Torspd posted with the groove in it's placement is the most important in all of this.

    Why is the shock covered in oil?

    I drove for over a year with nothing sealing my axles and the cylinders were still fine. Still dry inside?
