It's way too much for me - I just dig the setup.
I'm quite happy with my CVT.

There is an attraction to that design & the Flippac for the simplicity of setup.

After a 12 day trip packing up the RTT every morning got old.

 

Have you looked into heaters?....may be cheaper.

 

I've been out in 27° weather in mine.
Nothing an electric blanket won't fix.

Well, I like to make it as user-friendly as possible.
I do like the idea of having the truck "overland" setup so I don't have to hotel-hop on my little excursions.
Last June's trip to Moab was probably the limit of what my setup is capable of.
Or at least the limit of what I'm willing to do with it.

 

Was looking at Scamp trailers. Super lightweight and could be made trail worthy with some work. But pricey.

 

Nice but if I went the trailer route it would need a shower and a shitter.
Most of those Scamp trailers didn't have that.

Found a Scamp in PA for $4k. 13' with shower and toilet

 

At this point I'll need an RV to keep the rest of the family happy.
Taking them on a cross-country trip is still a bucket list item for me.

 

I have a 17ft casita. I'm a big guy and I shower in it. Wife and I love this camper. I bought it because it's lightweight, getting rid of my Tacoma for a bigger truck wasn't a option for me. They are built to order. Mine cost $17,400 otd. These campers are like tacomas, they old their value so well for a couple bucks more I ordered new. In reality I think I'm going to go with a full-size RV eventually.
Whereas I have no problem doing the Trailer thing knowing my wife we will have to do something different.

 

May have to do the fullsize diesel RV thing and pull the Taco behind it to keep my wife happy.

 

I had a stick built 30ft Gulfstream camper on a permanent site, never been towed except from the dealer to the campground. Nothing but issues, slide out motor went bad, slide out roof had to be replaced, main roof leaked numerous times. My class C MH had leak issues also. That's why I love the fiberglass campers, no roof seems to leak. Personally I won't own another stick built.
