Why can't a rear break upgrade be that simple!!!

 

In my experience, nothing about the brake system is ever “easy”.

 

I used '15 4runner front brakes and dust shields. They are noticeably larger. It's a pretty easy swap, and if you're due for wheel bearings, you can do that at the same time.

 

I don’t think I am due for them but probably wouldn’t be a bad idea to just swap out for new ones anyway since I’m pulling them all apart.

 

Yea, if you're changing the dust shields, the hub comes off anyway.

I ordered the SOS sequoia master cylinder kit and was about to order the rear disk kit, but now I've changed my mind. I'm just going to keep the rear drums and make sure they stay adjusted. I had a soft pedal for a while and then finally realized my passenger rear drum was way out of adjustment. I got that sorted out and the brakes work great now.

 

For now I want to just upgrade the front & see how big a difference it makes.
35’s for years just beat up the stock components...

 

What rotors and pads did you use? I used Toyota pads and Centric rotors, and I've been thinking about trying different pads.

I agree about the pedal. Mine travels a little more, but it works well.

I have a set of drilled & slotted rotors now - forget which brand. the current pads are the basic autozone special. Wagner I think.

Thinking about going with the slotted Stoptec rotors and the EBC pads this time around with the upgrade.

Also think I'll replace the rear drums & adjust them at the same time.

 

word. I might try that Power Stop tow and haul kit next, seems like people really like that setup.

 

Nothing but good reviews with them.

Honestly, I just want to get back to a comfortable stopping power with this bucket o' bolts. Right now if I have to stomp on it it's not a very comfortable feeling.

 

I went with the stoptech slotted rotors and hawk lts pads. Had the ebc slotted and dimpled rotors and yellow stuff pads before and the only thing that changed was the amount of brake dust. It got to be completely ridiculous!

Btw, you know you and Ant are my TW heroes/role models. Have been for years, but I think you knew this...

 

OMG fuck those yellow pads.

Have Yue run a full tank through it yet? I’m curious what the actual useable volume is. Like how the stock tank is 21 gallons but a normal fill up without pushing it to the limit is 17-18 gallons.

 

Not yet. Currently odo is at 169 miles and I still have 3/4 of a tank according to the dash.

Took 25 gallons the first time but we put 5 in from my swingout spare and whatever was left from the stock tank.
