i hear ya. we were considering getting a place in chesapeak beach, if Alexis wanted to work in DC or Annapolis, but that would have us both making 40+ mile commutes, one way. and i really don't feel like doing that before and after 12+ hour days....

 

So, after leaving college I got a loan from the old man & bought this:


87’ 4x4 extra cab w/ the carbureted 22R motor. As I recall it had 40K on it…

My 1st gen Tacoma was a 99’ TRD Off Road Extended Cab 4X4. 3.4 V6 w/ 5spd manual. Surfside Green Mica exterior & Gray Interior. 1st Gen TRD Supercharger, K&N Intake, Sony HU Carpet Bed liner Custom Diamond Plate mud flaps & Bed Rails + all the Lund Crap I could get for it.



Hey, nice way to show all you cool trucks! What do you call those things that go above the windshield that you had on your trucks? I've always liked those with lights

 

Those were Lund Sunvisors. I don't think the make them for the 2nd gens though...

 

Oh, alright, for some odd reason I've always liked them. If I had an older, larger Ford pickup(talkin' late 70's) or any Ford Bronco I would definitely have one on it - Broncos have been in the family so that's why I like them

 

thought about doing one to block light from my roof lights from hitting the windshield. turns out i positioned/aimed them in a way that it wasn't an issue, but i still think they're pretty cool looking.

Did you ever get your speedometer corrected after the re-gear?

 

When the re gear took place I was on 295s and the speedo was off by about 10-11mph. Now with the 35x12.5x17's it's off by about 4-5mph.
I'm going to live with it.

I always called them a ball cap. There is a company making them for second gens now but i thing they look better on the older trucks IMO

Looks good...sooo well done! I love that truck. The flares are a nice touch over the stock ones...i see they've been trimmed too...damn 35s lol
I'll be doing my spring detail job on mine soon. Then it'll be time to rust proof and undercoat my frame/underneath.

I took a couple hours today and got the Core/Hurst short shifter installed today. Once the new assembly was in it was very tough to get the front center console section back in place.
Once I got it in I found I was hitting the back of the shifter surround when trying to engage 1st,3rd, and 5th gear.
I took all the carbon fiber trim pieces off and trimmed about 1/2" off the back of the opening. I then put the trim back onto cover the gap left in the front.
For the stick itself, I mounted it on the left side of the assembly instead of the right side as intended. I also used 1/2" longer bolts and put about 5/16" worth of a spacer in between. This effectively moved the stick over 1" toward the drivers side, hopefully freeing up enough space to do a triple stick for the crawlbox and T-Case.
I also did some digging and found my old Hurst T-handle shift knob!
This thing was in both my 87' and 99' at one point in time.
The miracle of the day was actually finding the adapter nut for the handle that worked with the Core stick as the threads are much smaller than the stock Toyota ones.
I was in the zone so I did not take any shots while I was doing it but here is the result:





The throw is very similar to that of the URD kit that I have had in since I purchased the truck.

Very pleased with the look & feel of this new shifter.

 

Here's the final shot with the other trim piece back on.
There's now a 1/2" gap between the two close to the cup holders

 

New shifter is louder - can hear the trans more - nothing that jacking up the volume on the stereo don't fix.
I really like the new shifter feel too.
After discussing with another member today a few of the options I'm getting very excited about the upcoming driveline mods.
