HomerTaco's big old bucket o’ bolts build

I've spoken with a lot of members about the Shackle Flip mod (SFM) and have done a lot of research...
This is just one part of the mod process - I still have to get longer shocks and get extended rear brake lines. (both of which i hope to have by next Friday)
The SFM Kit that I used was built by Kevin at ATO. He currently does not have them in production, I was able to purchase this kit from another TW member who bought it but never installed it.
I spoke with Kevin about what setup I was running and he was kind enough to email me a PDF. with the complete install instructions.
As indicated by these instructions the hardest part of the entire install was the removal of the stock shackle hanger. I used an angle grinder to take off the heads but for the life of me I could not hammer them out with a punch as described.
I ended up just drilling them out completely.


Here you can see the stock hanger removed. I took a grinding wheel & removed some surface rust and then put a couple of coats of flat black over it.

I ran out of time today to measure for the new shocks - that will happen tomorrow.

 

I took it off to get the bedside painted.... Unfortunately Bonnie's van got hit two weeks ago and the van took my trucks appt at the body shop.
It will go back on once its fixed.

Also had the shop install my 23" brake lines from Low Range Off-Road:



Much needed due to the increased down-travel with the ATO Shackle Flip.

Next is the B110 Billy 5100's - They should be here tomorrow...

Still have to figure out how to limit the up-travel a bit as to not bottom out these new billies...

I will tomorrow... It was getting dark & I"ll be under there tomorrow for the new shocks....

Very clean shock boot in the pic...



Now to figure out how to limit the up-travel so I don't bottom out & kill these brand new shocks...

no - the new shocks are 16" compressed and 27" extended vs. 14" and 24" respectively for the ones we installed...
I had to get creative with some fabbed spacers to limit the up travel for now as not to bottom out these new ones...
The proper solution is new shock mounts that allow for full travel...
I've been working with Kevin at ATO on a solution. Going for something similar to what jandrews has done but not as much travel. He's headed for 14-16"
He gets to be the guinea pig.
I ran a ton of simple trails at Rausch this past weekend with some TW guys from New England on Sat. and got a chance to test it out.
Went pretty well.
The flares will easily accommodate stuffing the new 295's once the mounts are done.
I'm pretty happy with the results!

 

Ahh. I see now. big difference. Well, it will turn out. Sounds like the shock mount may be the way.

I'm done with the big mods for now... I've got everything I need done.
I'll be concentrating on getting more grill work done prior to taking the time off.

Working with Kevin at ATO on redoing the shock mounts. That will be the next big Mod.

I may do a leather install for him too - we're still working out some details.
