Leather seats are so over rated... I would never do that to my Tacoma. And heated seats would be even worse....

    :D

One of my favorite mods so far. Finally got the redlinegoods.com leather center console cover too. My leatherization is complete!

    QUETION ON HEATED SEATS INSTALL:

how in the world did you people run the wire on the seat back section? It seems there is no way to run the wire to under the seat without it being obviously seen. It needs alot of play especially with my flat folding seat (more pivot=more slack needed for wire). Are there any DIY threads on seat heaters? I haven't found one.

Your ideas and pictures would be much appreciated!

Someone surely has posted a DIY thread on heated seat install that taps into ignition controlled power source.

Thank you so much for this write-up. It saved me a couple hundred bucks by giving me the courage to do it myself.

I found that steaming the headrest cover worked great. I used a 2 quart sauce pan with water on it on the stove. Steamed it and then slide it over an old vegetable bag.

    Again. Thanks!!!!!!!

Could you send me the word file for the katzkin DIY? I'm also thinking seat heat. Is that a big hunk of work also?

If you can splice wires you can install heated seats.;)

I agree. I thought you just pulled the new covers over the old ones. Are Wet Okole's this difficult to install.
Another thing, HomerTaco: You're a damn Tacoma genius. Great work.

I am going to order a katzkin kit tomorrow and install myself when it arrives. I have one issue I hope someone can help. When I picked up my little dog from the vet this morning, I sat him on the passenger seat for a couple minutes when I went back inside to the vet (to ask when the last time he ate and did his business, ironically), he peed on both front seats. Poor little guy, I think he was stressed.

I sprayed and poured Natures Miracle, mainly to save the cell foam underneath, but it still smells like festered pee. Not to mention, pouring the stuff stained the cloth seats, so the leather is a done deal now. I am going leather, both because I now have a dog, and as a road cyclist, I am always getting into the truck sweaty and tired of draping towels on the seat.

My question is two-fold. First, is the cell foam for the seat bottom an order-able Toyota part, and if so, appx. how much? Secondly, if not, or too expensive, how would you treat the cell foam seat before and during installation? I want to kill the pee smell forever, but I don't want to grow mold by dousing the thing and then sealing it in leather.

My time window would likely preclude drying out the cell foam for a couple days, unless I get a car rental for a couple days, which I can do if I must.

Anyone else had to deal with this kind of problem?

    Thanks in advance.

    Damn... :(

First - check with a local Toyota stealership parts dept to see if you can order it.
Second - to seal up the one you have I would look into Concrobium. It is available at Home Depot.
No sure if it is a perfect solution but the stuff does amazing with mold & odors.

Best of luck & feel free to pm me with any questions.

Thanks Craig, the cell foam for the seat costs $180.00/seat ($135.00 online), way more than I care to spend, so I will be treating the foam. Its much better today. I will use more Nature's Miracle, since I just ordered the leather kit tonight and I won't see it for 10 days or so. Also, a local detailer suggested Resolve foam, from the grocery store, that he thinks works best for odors and stains, so I'll try some of that too. I'll look into the concrobium as well.

I think this will be a transformative upgrade for the truck, in the end. I can't wait for the end result, and thanks for the DIY write-up. I'll try to take some detailed pics, since I am a news photog, but can't make promises, in case I am short on time to get the job done. I am traveling a lot these days.

Just a follow-up, I think Resolve worked better than Nature's Miracle for odor elimination, for anyone who wants to clean their upholstery seats. Seats smell and look clean, other than the stains from the Nature's Miracle, which are likely permanent. Doesn't matter because my leather should ship out today.
