She’s dead.

Yesterday late afternoon I was on my way to Baltimore for work - taking a back-way due to multiple accidents on I-95 south.

I was stopped in traffic about 7 cars deep at a yielding roundabout when a woman in a Jeep Cherokee slammed into the passenger rear.
I heard her lock up the tires and was able to tense up and brace myself with the steering wheel just before impact.
The hit was hard enough to blow the passenger side curtain air bag.

I was startled but otherwise physically fine.

My FRS however is toast.



Super bummed. Even though it had over 100K on the clock the car still drove like the day I bought it.

Hopefully I can find another that’s as good as this one was.

I am very sad to hear this, but thankful you are safe.

It seems with the popularity of these cars increasing and the already insane used market these cars are going for almost double what they were a few years ago in our area. I have been looking for the past couple years and have had to watch the price steadily increase as the mileage on the used ones also increased.

 

This is my exact concern.
Currently there are 5-6 cars available within a reasonable distance. All are used with varying levels of mileage. Based on the KBB value of my car and what the potential replacements cost, there is a significant difference.
I now have to wait until the insurance companies tell me what I'm getting.

 

Perhaps they will "tell you" to get an attorney to help acquire the difference in cost to get you back in a similar vehicle to what you had.... but that's just my .02!

 

You may not need an attorney. You can reject the offer from the insurance company by yourself stating replacement vehicle costs. It's just like buying a car. The insurance company will likely lowball you to start and you can negotiate a deal both parties can live with.

 

I agree. I negotiated with the insurance company both times I've had a car totaled, and both times they've raised their numbers. The Honda Fit had some modifications, which they wouldn't budge on, so I removed them. I got them to move a little closer to full retail cost rather than wholesale as well. I had also just had a 100K mile maintenance done and they gave me some of that back even though they normally would not. The STi had modifications that actually increase the value of the car, and after I convinced the adjuster of that -- and they did their own research -- they raised the value considerably.

 

I’m not going to let them screw me over.
Looking around over the past few days there are several around that will suit my needs.
Hopefully I’ll have a number next week so I can move forward.

I'd agree though with these guys. Don't accept less than you want. When my 2010 DCLB was totaled they tried to pay me for an SR5 because I didn't have the stickers on the bedside. I showed them comparable trucks for sale and the window sticker from mine and they have me over 3,000 more

Replacement is a 2015 BRZ with a SBD (Speed By Design) Turbo and fully modified exhaust.

I was able to connect with the original owner on Facebook and learned that the car was dyno tested at 310HP.

It's a blast to drive!

 

Got the center console arm rest and spoiler in the mail today.
