The 3 inch foam is comfortable. I haven't used a ton of other RTTs but it is definitely more comfortable than the thinner Ursa Minor cushions. The GFC cushions fit tight together and I have not yet noticed the separation at all... must be due to the thicker foam. I am also not very picky about mattress comfort, but weighing around 250lb, in the Ursa I go right through to the sub-structure, not with the still new GFC cushions.

#3 is key. I have heard of a workable solution from GFC but haven't seen it yet and no idea on time frame. Very important feature.

Glad to hear they're comfortable. Recall them saying the difference was like a Cadillac to a Bentley. Or something like that.
At this stage of my life a Bentley has an appeal.

I am of the same opinion as Will. Haven't taken anything apart yet... Might try this weekend and will let you know if it happens.

So does that mean that if these ridiculous tariffs are reversed and metal prices return to "normal" we will see a price reduction for the GFC?

No bed rails on 1st Gens. Plus would like it mounted higher than the bed if possible.

Wow back into the archives.... you wanna run a hammock diangonally across the bed off the frame of the GFC? Can i ask why you’d want to sleep in a hammock, below the bed you paid 6k for? Drawn over Mandrel tubing (DOM) is just about the strongest tubing out there so I’d imagine yes. But really why would you want a hammock under a tent?

The hammock under the tent would be for another person to sleep under the people sleeping up top. But I’m really interested in opening one of the sides and hanging a hammock from the metal braces to a tree or another vehicle!

Gotcha. Now i do NOT have mine yet I’m still about a month out, but, for what it’s worth i do not think that is a good idea. You are only holding the entire frame square and to be bed with a few clamps pulling on it hard in one direction only would likely break the seal and or pull it out of square. There’s only a few clamps mounted to rails holding the entire thing on. That said a 2” piece of square stock coming out of your receiver hitch would be more than up to the task. Again his is only speculation out that seems like the worst type of force you could apply.

Yeah, I think you're probably safe hanging half a person's weight in pretty much any direction off of the tube frame. Whole thing should be super rigid. Once it's bolted down, there is a lot of friction between a topper and the bed rail.

Yep.... i agree. Like i said it’ll prob just pull it off to the side. Those tiny clamps connected to the tracks will shift. Or maybe not... either way i seriously doubt the GFC was engineered with lateral force in mind.

no it wont, at all. just driving around down a bumpy road would put more force on it than someone hanging in a hammock.

    A few more pic
I've tried various combinations of open windows and closing the top. As the top comes down and the tent collapses inward, it kind of seals itself and traps air regardless. By far the easiest way to close it is to have a pillow missing. At Graeme's suggestion, I've turned the rectangular cushion sideways and moved it all the way to the rear. This catches the bulk of the tent as it collapses and prevents it from hanging down inside the camper.
