My second gen with the puck antenna still had good xm reception with the GFC overhang.

There are a few more accessories for sale on the GFC web page. I hadn’t checked in a while and did not realize they were posted.

Any GFC's on cement trucks yet?

I bought an access cab to camp in the 6' bed under a cap, but my next setup will definitely be a DCSB + GFC. Is everyone happy with the sleeping platform length on the short bed?

Man you have one of the best looking trucks on Tacomaworld in my opinion, clean and simple! don’t sell it! Just add a GFC to it. Your build pretty much inspired me to build mine like yours, just with a GFC now

Haha, thank you :). I think the main thing holding me back from getting one for my 2nd gen at the present time is that I wouldn't be able to throw it on a new build in the future unless I got an AC again or a DCLB. Plans can always change though :D

Different frame. Same tent. So you replace the base which is the frame. They might offer a buy back deal but who knows.

Curious what the pricing would be on just a frame and panels.

Guessing with the labor and materials it may be more than half of the total cost.

How about offering as an option the extension of the T track extrusion farther out over the cab? The hinge mechanism would still operate in the same location but the extrusion would extend out 2+ feet. It then be used as a rack for solar panels, trail lights, luggage, etc.

They have mentioned possibility of a cantilever cab over rack that I think would be along those lines.

It would be within the abilities of many on here to make a cab over rack that bolts to the tent frame extrusion. I would think you would want to keep loads light though as the leverage on the frame extrusion (especially on a short bed) seems like it would be significant.

Yeah, you shouldn't use the rack for heavy items such as water but it would be a nice clean look and a place to permantely mount solar panels and lights.
My truck has a long bed so the overhang wouldn't be much longer than what the short bed already has.

I wish they would make the bed a tad bit longer and the platform a bit thicker so you can store 2 sleeping bags and pillows up there.

I'm coming from the hardshell RTT world and it was nice just having all sleeping gear (2 pillows with 2 sleeping bags) stowed inside the sleeping platform at all times and never have to worry or think about did I forget anything? Please its a huge space saver.

A 1.5-2 inch thicker GFC would go a long way. Most would not fit in their garage anyway with the current GFC with lift and "33-35 inch tires.

Thanks for the reply. Compressible and inflatable pillows are a no no for me when car camping. This is car camping where comfort and good night sleep is important for me. Backpacking? That's another story where comfort get thrown out the window survival and weight are key and I have no problem using inflatable pillows then. I have two North face synthetic sleeping bags that fully compress, but the problem is the pillows.

Just wish the GFC allowed space for storing all sleeping gear up top. I find it alloying to constantly take things up/down everyday especially if I am paying $6k for the GFC and cant do a simple request like this.. I rather just set it and forget it.

Pretty close to pulling the trigger on one of these for my first gen taco, after seeing the fit on penguins. I think it was mentioned before, but have you guys thought about fitting one of these up to a first gen 4runner? I think that would be sick, even though its an old platform. I always thought about building something like that on my 87, but never had the time or tech. If you guys built a camper to fit the first gens and seal up to the cab, I would almost buy a truck to build to your camper.Picture 067aa.jpg

Not a GFC but with my Vagabond I just pull my bed platform forward so it clears the mattress and put my normal house pillows on the platform directly. It's kind of annoying but only takes a couple seconds.

Looks like you could do the same with the GFC as well.

Yeah , just throwing it out there. I don't even own a first gen 4 runner anymore, but with what I've seen of GFC's shop I think a custom lower frame and sealing to the cab would be not a be a big deal.

?? they already are building an entire body and camper for other trucks, seems like part of their model is to be flexible on building the lower frame to fit different platforms. like I said, just throwing it out there. To me that would be the ultimate lightweight toyota 4X4 first gen straight axle with a camper.
