I haven’t had mine in serious rain yet. In the rain we did get the only water intrusion into the truck bed was through the front bedside corners, not the gfc. I didn’t seal them well enough before install and now they are tough to reach.

My tailgate flap seals decently. No light seen under it. I am going to add a door seal to the top of the tailgate so the hatch seal would interlock with it to make a better seal, if I notice an issue.

I don’t have striker plates. The side panels don’t compress the bottom seal along the length of the space frame on top of the truck bed. They don’t rattle, but some dust could come up. I could adjust the latches, or get striker plates.

I am not a brand ambassador, I don’t have any connections, just a random person that got in early and got a build in the 20s. Overall, still very happy with the product.

Hmm. Mine is definitely not like that, I’ve checked. I can’t see any light in or out now after I added some tailgate seal to the bottom of the rear hatch space frame surface. That should be fixable somehow.

I forgot, I also pressure washed mine and didn’t notice any water inside. I didn’t purposefully point it at the seals, but I didn’t avoid them either. Then I opened up the doors and washed the truck bed.

I agree, the design is exactly in line with what I want.

    Other notes:
For mpg, here are my observations. From stock, I put a lift on, then the gfc, then 265/75r16 load E tires.

The mild lift~1” had no no noticeable affect on mpg.
The gfc has a 1-2 mpg hit.
The new tires another 1-2 mpg hit.

Overall ~1-4mpg down from stock depending on driving. Anything >65mph and it gets noticeably worse.

I am going to try and rig a solar panel as a fairing or wind deflector for long camping trips at some point and see if it helps mpg.

    My rear hatch seal improvement:

There was a big gap here.

Wasn't expecting all that. Just asking for more detail as there seems to be some differences between user experiences here. I ordered a GFC and am excited to get it, and I expect that it won't be perfect as it's a hand-built product from a small company. But I appreciate knowing the good and bad if possible. Looks like that happened through some of these back and forth posts--thanks. And now I'm up to 13 posts.

If you could send some photos to the orders@gfcengineering.com email, Ben will take a look and figure out a fix for you. From that photo it looks like the hinge wasn't pressed far enough in when the tent mounting bolts were tightened. There shouldn't be a gap in the seal. Regardless, we'll get that sorted for you.

This has been the best part of the GFC by far. While no product is ‘perfect’ the owners personally care and work to address any and all issues that come up. I’m happy to take that trade off compared to a mass market foreign made disposable product.

86EADA31-55E1-4CD7-99BB-E63C4C89A842.jpg @wileydavis how far in does the male part of the closer bracket go into the extrusion? Going to mount some scene lights up there and going to run the wires internally.
    Thanks

And @YOTA 4X4 have the steelhead been running yet?

Mostly Salmon in the river right now, but the Chrome is slowly starting to show up now. In the next week or so I’d imagine it’s gonna heat up. Temps went from the 80’s yesterday to the 40’s today so the action should get hot now.

If I remember correctly those were the prototypes, may be the same but... Also what do those bolt into in the extrusion to keep them into place. Hopefully he can just give me a number from the end of the extrusion toward my hand that would be safe to drill. I am also talking the top part that pops up.

Umm, I doubt it. I think they are bolted into a rifled part of the extrusion that you cannot see from the out side. I have been looking for a pic of the extrusion's cross section but can not find one.

Should be similar to this. I think Wiley posted an image a while back showing it, but if I remember right it's identical to below:

Forgot to mention that I received my bolt upgrades, new washers for the latches, and striker plates this week.

My truck has been collecting snow in the backyard this week, so haven't felt like putting them in yet, but will get to it shortly.

So thanks to the crew at GFC for getting those out. They must of had a productive customer service meeting last week.

I'm talking these end brackets, they must bolt into the extrusion.

The end plug extends 1” into the extrusion. They’re held on with those screws you can see on the front and sides of the corners. Those are thread cutting screws that cut a 1/4-20 machine thread onto a screw track extruded into the tent frame.

    Hey guys,
I’ve spent a total of 10 nights in my GFC since I picked it up this month.
I absolutely love it. It’s been great.
I’ve noticed a few things that are starting to worry me living in Portland and with the rainy season just about to kick in.

-The southco locks seem to be leaking pretty in the rain.

-I’ve noticed leaking coming in from bulkhead near where the top
Of the GFC meets the bottom of the bed panel.

-My awning bracket and tent latches are starting to show rust

-I noticed the gasket or seal looks a little odd underneath the overhang where the space frame meets the tent. Can somebody check there seal and tell me if it looks the same. It bows back in towards the bed near the middle. E5AA359D-5D55-478A-8977-52F139E99550.jpg

Included some pics below. Hopefully this all makes sense.
