anyone ever thought of cutting the front mattress down by 12" or so. cant really fit my head or feet in that small area of the wedge anyway regardless of how you orient for sleep, then i could store my pillows in that gap left behind... folded up nicely we could barely fit a heavy weight queen down comforter. i imagine a higher quality/lightweight quilt could fit up there no problem.

Anyone mind PM'ing me recommendations for primitive camping near or slightly east of Belgrade? Found a couple places near Livingston, but figure there are likely some good recommendations from this forum. Thanks in advance!

I hadn't thought about it before I saw your comment, but I like the idea, so I went out and cut 8" off (i'm 6'5", so 8" is as much as I felt comfortable removing). I also put down some 1" aluminum angle with some 3m tape to prevent the mattress from sliding up into the gap while sleeping. I'm now using that gap to store our pillows. Thanks for the suggestion ;)

good idea on the angle. was wondering about how to keep it in place. let me know how it works. may give it a chop before our next outing. what did you do with the cushion cover to modify it? just fold under?

I've toyed with the idea of cutting 6" to 12" off the squares so that there would be space at the back end for better ventilation and more efficient heating. Standard mattresses are about 80" whereas the GFC setup is about 90"

I just bought a set of 2.5, 12" reservoir adjusters for an Archive relocate and the folks I talked to on the phone took a lot of time asking about my weights, the type of spring pack and what I planned on doing with my truck. Of all the major parts (gears, rack, leaf pack, etc.) their delivery was lightning fast too- faster than ordering direct from King.

Yeah I have the fitted sheets, so I just folded the cover over and let the sheet hold it in place.

I did that the other day (cut 6" from each square) for the same reasons, and I can also get in and out without removing any panels, but it is a little tight.

3100 miles into our trip! So far, 4 national parks, a few state forests, a couple National monuments and some great camping! More details when I get home on Monday night.
So far I love the GFC! Only complaint is the 2 inch mattress. Really too hard for me. With a little memory foam life will be good again. Did that to my Tepui RTT as well.

Hmm... since I have the 6" wider XL version, I could cut 9" off each square and possibly have a viable climb down. 18" is a little tight though?? It takes balls to cut into your new camper.

Did you just pull the old foam out of your Tepui and substitute 2" memory foam? I was wondering if 2" memory foam is thick enough not to bottom out when sleeping on your side.

Nope, just put it on top. It compresses enough to work in the Tepui at least.

The 3” foam that came with mine is very comfortable, and I’m a big guy.

Have they switched to 2” for all new campers?
