What changed with the strut brackets? Hadn’t noticed that difference from mine on any of the newer pictures posted, but I wasn’t really looking I guess.

Did you see post #9954 above? Includes a written response from GFC about a hinge issue. It doesn't specifically use the work misuse, but does try to put blame on the customers for the problems.

Worried about my hinges as well. I have build number 20 something. Looks like the most stress is actually on the rear hatch on mine although it looks like a side may be starting to crack.

Have all of the side panels that failed split starting at the rear?

Trying to prevent it in the first place. Limit straps or remove the gas strut in the rear for a side panel?

Any tips for how to deal if it happens on a trip?

Still very happy with the gfc overall.

Thanks, it was very green -- a lot of snow this winter and the melt came very late. I worked at Alta Lodge decades ago and wanted Sandy to see the lupen in Albion Basin. I thought we might be too late, but the melt came so late this year that the wild flowers at 8,000' weren't expected to bloom until the end of July. People were still hiking up to ski the upper slopes while we were there

The truck is a short bed. I'm packing to leave for the White Mtns. tomorrow morning. I'll get the measurements when we get back this weekend.

I was #16. I didnt ever notice any cracking. When I had just finished packing the truck, I pulled the side down to close and the entire thing just snapped off LOUDLY. my GF in the house ran out wondering what happened.

That's cool but why am I hearing about it on Tacoma World rather than from GFC? They changed to a new fabric, a new cushion, and several other issues and where do I hear about it? Tacoma world. I find it frustrating that none of the changes that have been made to the camper I put a deposit on last October were told to me by gfc . I hear it from random strangers on Tacoma world. What's up with this?

I don’t work for GFC. I heard about it because they posted it on Facebook. They didn’t share it here. I did.
Go to their forum and ask them.

I get it thanks for sharing. Just wondering why they don't share more information with their actual customers. I follow them them on IG but don't use Facebook. It seems reasonable to me that if you drastically change the product that your customer is waiting for you would give them a phone call or maybe an email blast. I wonder if they are going to use this forum to actually keep us updated on the changes they make to the product we purchased.

I’m assuming and hoping they listened and are going to use their forum for the place to keep everyone in touch.

Nope. This forum tossed too much shit in their general direction. I don't blame them for staying away but do miss their presence.

Shit. I was going to join the new forum to see what develops. But, fuck. That is disheartening.

Hopefully you are set with the new hinge.

I understand the failure that you have saw. Just like tearing folded paper.

    A bit disappointed.

All fair points. I know the company is fantastic about ironing out the issues as they come, I just really worry about my long term investment here when I see the problems we keep seeing here on TW.

I think ill just work all of these things out with them over email, voice my concerns and see if they're willing to include some extra hinges and a potential discount/early install {beta test, if you will} of the 3rd gen tent. I'm not above being a Guinea pig, I just want the thing to remain fairly reliable and field repairable since the nature of my life and work is heavily nomadic.

Thanks for all the responses guys, guess I'll head over to the GFC forum now and see what that's all about. :fingerscrossed:

Too true. Ya gotta say that there are hinge options out there and swapping them doesn't hurt too bad.

Any of you guys weigh your trucks recently? I did and the numbers are scary. With the truck completely empty, full tank of gas, back seats removed and no spare tire it’s at 5220lbs. I have a front hybrid bumper with winch, sliders, a rear bumper with swingout (only 50lbs heavier than the stock rear), steel IFS skid, dual battery, ARB single compressor, a ham radio and a GFC. Not exactly a heavy weight build and I’m over the GVWR with just me and my dog and none of the normal gear I carry daily.

Hahaha... yeah. I took my Truck in for 30k service and the Toyota dealership TURNED IT AWAY, because they didn’t have a “truck” lift open and wouldn’t put it on the standard (I guess car) lift. Had to reschedule in a couple weeks and specify the truck lift.

My trucks pretty F-ing heavy though.
