Also, I still don’t get why they blamed customers for the hinge failures while simultaneously knowing that it was fucked up design-wise, and a component failure, not misuse or abuse like they told those customers.

    It doesn’t add up.

That’s what everybody made a high dollar bet on when they bought your product, but obviously that isn’t the experience that everybody gets with their investment.

Either way, for a company to represent themselves any other way is foolhardy and irresponsible, so I just hope you’re right for their sake. I think you rushed to market a subpar product and your multiple revisions since then attest to that, they’re not improvements - they’re repairs. Or as GFC refers, “retooling.”

I hope everything works out, but your model is very sophomoric and social media trendy and neither of those bid to longevity. They do, however, allow for quick sales and mega hype over something that isn’t as polished as the marketing would suggest, as shown by the reality of the shortcomings that have since decided to show themselves since it was a CAD file on TW.

No offense but posts like that last one are 100% the reason Wiley and Graeme both vacated TW and set up their own forum. I’m not arguing if you’re right or wrong (remember I had one of the first GFC’s) but Jeez Wiley hasn’t posted on here in probably a year and this is how we welcome him back? I for one am happy to see the continuous improvement and yes like any new product the first iteration had a few issues. Hopefully GFC will continue to improve and take care of existing customers.

And if you come back @wileydavis its good to see you visiting on here again!

Nobody is owed a homecoming, and I’d have posted that the same as my other posts regardless of his momentary presence.

I’m sure them leaving here and creating their own forum can be looked at in the way that they were ran off somehow, but if you don’t think any manufacturer having their own forum is for more tangible control of their own information sharing and a breeding ground of confirmation bias then you’re really being unrealistic. As soon as issues popped up, they started declining replies and justified it with blame (again to their customers) for keeping them tied up in communication, the reality was more that questions needed to be asked and they weren’t easy to answer. This continued through the redesigns and failures until where it’s at today, where they spoon feed informal press releases to a forum of hyped up or invested anons and make minimal efforts to appear elsewhere so customers aren’t feeling abandoned. It’s called damage control, and they’re good at it. It’s easier than accountability, and it’s free until they piss off enough customers or someone gets hurt and there’s a class action suit.

The pressures and level of questioning with the high liability situations of their product failing and causing serious injury isn’t something they’ve fully addressed or dealt with up to this point because everybody has gone along with whatever they were told. Now the risks are high for many and known information doesn’t fit the story GFC is telling, and instead of being relegated mainly to TW it’s also on their own forum, and that isn’t comfortable. They HAVE to get out from under the rock they covered up with.

I understand your feelings with them are ever optimistic and fuzzy, and you deserve that. Every customer does. Unfortunately, many others who don’t have the same feelings and aren’t getting heard on all the GFC social platforms, whether they own them or not.

    Welcome back, Wiley. Stay awhile.

Anyone have photos of gray panels on a cement Tacoma I could see for looks?

I need to make my camper color choices soon (woo!) and I’m debating between grey and black panels.

All the photos I’ve seen of the grey panels seem like they’d be a bit light for my taste. But the swatch looks pretty close to the cement color, and it looks pretty good, but I don’t want to trust my perception based on the tiny tile.

    Thanks

I don’t have a photo for you, but when I was making the color choice (I have a silver 2012), I liked the idea of having a contrasting color rather than a color that kind of matches, but not really. I went black for that reason.

Good luck! I don’t think you can go too wrong with your color choice.

Thanks. I’ve seen multi photos of cement with black and think it’d look great, especially with black wheels/tires. I’m 90% set on that, but figured I’d ask before finalizing.

    The hinge saga continues.

Early builds don’t just need a reseal, they might need the frame ground flat as well to provide a flat surface for the hinge. This is according to the gfc forum.

    :deadhorse:

Here is what my rear hatch looks like with no foam seal under the corners. The hinge corners are lifted by the welds. Both corners are lifted simultaneously but I only attached pictures of one. No amount of sliding the hinge left or right will solve it.

It’s really starting to seem like square tubing for the frame would have saved a lot of headaches over the round tubing.

Original design was for canvas like a soft topper, so round tube made more sense. Hard panels were a decision made by majority vote when the CAD was released on TW.

This may sound shocking, but it’s almost as if it wasn’t designed properly despite the “team of engineers.”

Beginning with the frame, and disintegrating from there outward.

Hardly, but being that I’m neither blinded by hype or personal investment it’s much easier to read the writing on the wall.

    I don’t even need glasses.

Amazing that some of you still get drunk on the GFC stream of half truths and outright lies and failures. Don’t get bitter about it, nobody is asking you to admit you have a problem. It’s a public place and an open topic, so don’t get mad if other people disagree with you.

I see it's Mr. Cheerful again. Why are you so bitter? You've made your points, so why do you keep hanging around like some emotional leech. Do you draw sustenance from *hitting on other's dreams? Do you have some sort narcissistic savior's complex? I see you have almost 68,000 messages on TW:eek:. You must have the problem!

I'm not mad that you disagree, I'm just curious what writing on the wall I'm missing.

Must be my shitty vision, but I do need to make an eye doctor appointment.

You can stir the pot all you want, and say GFC and GFC owners haven't aknowledged the issues that they have, but looks like they've sold almost 1,000 units now, so I guess a lot of other people aren't seeing the writing on the wall either. :notsure:

Irrational responses from both of you, as usual. Pelfreybilt sold a lot of units too, you want to talk about what sale numbers have to do with anything? GFC is a marketing company first, that’s why they pandered to social media and gave campers away despite your reservation spot being paid for. Obviously, actually making a good product is a secondary focus.

You guys hang your hats on the weakest, spoon fed hooks around and sleep easy with your marketing materials, and have since day 1 - so I have no expectation either of you would change course, because you’d look silly.

Except rajacat, but every realistic or negative post he’s made about the product or the company he’s deleted 20 minutes later.

So are you insinuating the writing on the wall you mentioned is that they will pull a pelfry and screw everyone? Because you seemed to avoid that and skip straight to personal attacks.

No, if I was I’d say that. What I said was that there’s little tangible correlation between pre-sale numbers and anything with the end product quality or business longevity.

More straw grasping. What personal attacks? Lol
