Hard sided will be the same cost. The material is more but the soft side is sewn by hand whereas the hard panels get made by machines, so the cost is roughly the same. Hard sided weight will be closer to 240 lbs. I get the soft sided concern but for me, I like the rolled up sides for desert and Baja trips. It's hard to make a topper that can't be popped open in three seconds. The best security is not having side windows in my opinion. If they can't see what's in the bed they're less likely to break in in the first place.

Yeah I understand about the windows part, im glad there will be no windows. I love the idea of rolling up the soft sides, but it can easily be damaged by some idiot with a knife or tool trying to get in.

In regards to the deposit, it states that it is fully refundable. Is there a deadline when, and if we decide we dont want to go this route, that we can get our refund back?

Any chance the aluminum sides will be able to swing up like windoors on fiberglass caps?

The deposit is refundable up until the point we ship the camper to you. We're not using the deposit money to fund the project in any way, we've already got that in place. The deposits are primarily a way for us to estimate how many to make in the first production run and to insure serious purchasing intentions so we can trust those numbers.

Eventually that will be an option but in the interest of making sure these get shipped on time we're not promising that as an option at first. That said, the hinge mechanism will be a retrofit, so you won't be locked in to inoperable sides.

I am already running dual unholey dash mounts and this GFC really has peaked my interest.

thanks for the reply and this is great to hear. One more question - with the aluminum panels presumably being four separate removable panels (i.e. front, sides and back...well maybe its five if you include the roof tent), how effective will they be with keeping water/rain (and dust) out of the bed? Fiberglass shells are nearly water tight and equaling this would be an absolute must for me to consider.

It's based on Iggy's design which is not quite ready for mass production.

Good to see people offering lower cost / lower weight alternatives to the four wheel & habitat campers.

It is still a work in progress with the builder to get the whole process sorted (mainly the tent sewing portion). No official price yet but close to this one.

Me too. 2 unholy mounts, 1 perfect squeeze, cable clips, radio knobs and a perfect squeeze on my motorcycle.

I should probably put a Hondo garage decal on my truck…
