I think in a pinch most could grab a couple long 2x4s, and set them up across the bed rails underneath the space frame about shoulder width apart. Then have some saw horses set up about as far apart as the width of the bed behind the truck.

Grab a buddy and with the side panels open and facing each other you could lift it off the truck with your shoulders under the 2x4s and hands holding the tubing to stabilize. Shuffle backwards and set on the horses.

It would be like a shallow 125lb squat. A third set of hands for stabilizing wouldn't hurt. I'll take a video for everyone's entertainment if I ever have to do it.

    Thanks guys!
Sorry, I must have overlooked that section of the FAQ ...my phone's screen cutoff after the Transform-A-Floor question; probably spilled onto another page.

I believe my shovel and axe weigh approx. the same as a full set (x4) of MaxTrax.
Perhaps swapping out to higher-rated struts could be my solution.

I like the idea of utilizing the GFC t-nuts as well, but was planning to mount my ARB awning to the tent track instead.

Oh the possibilities :) Thanks again guys, Cheers!

@DoorDing That's an even better idea, or some ratchet straps if the tabs don't line up with a good width.

@RubiCoug - I'd be really hesitant to mount anything to the aluminum side panels. While there are stiffeners on the sides the center areas of the panels are flat sheet material that would require a lot of fussing to install mounts that wouldn't wallow out the holes over time and/or warp the panels. How about inside mounted to the space frame? Or the bed track system?

Will there be any need for an anti-condensation mat in the fixed/overhang area to help prevent moisture?

Man.... I’ve been checked out of this and the Drifter thread for a few days. Been busy with work and my truck build up. Holy smoke there’s been some hostility going on.... apparently now I’m buying a ladder rack with a RTT??? Things change fast around here. (I’m being sarcastic about the ladder rack btw)

All kidding aside looking at all these wedge campers that are appearing I’m super pumped for my “first edition” GFC... even reading about the other options if price was the same this would still definitely be my choice.

My wife just booked up a campsite for the end of May, I’ve seen it asked but did i miss a timeline for these yet? I’m 41 and it says May for expected time. I’m hoping that means it can be shipped here by Mid May other wise I’ll be camping *gasp* ON THE GROUND!!!!

Any more pictures of units going out? #2 or #3 must be out by now???

Again just trying to get caught up... missing my GFC family on here.

Oh i also just ordered radio knobs and a set of T-nuts from Hondo Garage to go with my Un-holey mounts. I may get the first GFC tatoo soon too....

    -Yota

***edit*** For those lucky enough to live out west that may not know, booking a campsite is what we do here on the east coast if we want to park our truck somewhere near other people who also like to pay to sleep on dirt.... or look at it like i do, if you pay for a campsite there are bathrooms nearby so you don’t have to shit in a hole in the ground, which seems to make my wife much happier hahahaha....

I’m just waiting for my cvt to sell before I order mine, which happens to coincide with the first windowed unit being built......

    Is it a sign?

@wileydavis So the translucent roof thing. It’s cool, really cool, but you ever been at your local lake (I know it’s not real “overlanding”)on an early Saturday morning a bit hung over and the sun decides to come up at Bravo-Fracking-Early, and next thing you know it’s hangover to the oven squared?

I’m just thinking this might compound things and I’m wondering if there will be an option in the foreseeable future for a non translucent/insulated option.

Would using the kB voodoo steel bed caps instead of the plastic ones be a good idea? I’ve heard the steel caps can stop bed leaks with toppers

:( (sniff, sniff)...but JB did it with his Flippac and GG did it with their AT Habitat...

Mounting to the interior frame or bed rails would certainly work, but I’m really looking for an exterior mounting solution to keep my gear in the bed clean. Items like MaxTrax and shovels have a nasty habit of getting dirty.
With the overhang of the GFC, it sort of negates the possibility of doing a full cab rack to mount/store things like Maxtrax, Rotopax, axe/shovel, etc.

I’d think mounting something light like Maxtrax wouldn’t cause any problems. If you mount it fairly tight to the panel the length and width of the Maxtrax would probably act as an extra stiffener for the panel. You’d just have to find the spot to position the mount that clears the tubing and bracing inside the panel.

It’s not the light, but the fact that it’s 7000 degrees in your little green house one fine August morning, but I think I figured out the solution:

5A815BD7-8A29-4B39-B1A8-CE2177B39AED.jpg Hey only time will tell, and I’m probably in the wrong for being the one in the Nevada desert in the summer, but this picture gave me the idea that it might be a problem, if the lights can get out then the sun can get in.

And mods happen, maybe I’d have to put something not nearly as translucent on top if I got one. But I’ve noticed considerably cooler summer mornings since I got the weather hood on my rtt. If you’ve ever woken up in a hot muggy tent raise your hand, if This would be a non issue for you sit down.

Hey @inv3ctiv3 I had a question about the white color GFC uses. How close is it to the Tacoma “super white” color? In some of your pictures it looks pretty darn close to the stock truck white and in others, it looks a little more tan. I would rather not have to pay to get my GFC super white colored matched, just worried that it will look weird if it wasn’t a really close match. Thanks!

Consider adding a set of roof rack bars and a solar panel to cover the roof. Kind of serve a dual purpose, obviously keep your battery(s) topped off plus cover the light roof with dark panel to absorb the sun, and create another air layer between the solar panel and roof to insulate and keep things cool. This would work fairy well in my mind anyway. And of course opt for the optional fan that goes in a back corner to draw out the humidity and hot air.
