If you buy a GM you already don’t care too much about performance, style or reliability.

The difference being woven carbon fiber is stronger than steel and aluminum is not.

Frankly, I’m more than a little upset with Toyota. My 17 SR5 DC was such a disappointment, I traded it in for a new Tundra in only 14 months. Although my dealer took care of me, you can’t avoid losing money when you trade a car in only 14 months later. I love my Tundra but have a real issue with Toyota putting out such a poor quality Tacoma product. I have owned many Toyota’s over the years, but they cost me a chunk on the 17 Taco. The bitterness of Tacoma will never sweeten. C’mon Toyota, get it together!!!

I have 70k miles on my 3rd gen. Worth every penny. The owners' manual is my bible. What do you want to know?

    Let the questions begin...

Love my 3rd Gen TRD OR QS. Best I've ever had. It follows a 2012 Gen2, a Toyota 4wd pickup, a Tundra, Hardbody, Datsun 4wd pickup, jeeps, Isuzu, Pathfinder, Chevy, GMC. dually. I live on a road that eats trucks: the frames crack, salt spray eats the body, bed & frame, electrics corrode. Toyotas just get old and boring. The 2017 is the best one yet for traction, ride quality and comfort. No early issues. Minor peeves are the shift points (ECT button improves) and the engine whine from bearings that still sound and feel tight after a few thou miles. I understand that this improves after break-in around 20k. I've always sold my Toyotas after 100k miles, and never felt the need to do anything deeper than wheel bearings and timing chain. I would enjoy it a bit better if it was manual stick. Couldn't find any manual hi-spec Taco stock in the islands when I needed to buy.

I love my Tacoma - I've had no problems with it so far. Meets my needs perfectly as a mid-size truck and I have fun driving it.

Wow...that’s interesting. I honestly have never heard that or seen it anywhere. What are the trucks coming in for?

You're speaking of tensile strength, and in that regard, correct. It's misleading though, because carbon fiber generally is an awful performer in terms of impact resistance. So I think the post "bashing" (snicker) GM for their commercials where they drop heavy sharp shit into a Ford aluminum bed and make it crack (when they plan to use carbon fiber for theirs) is quite appropriate.

They don't use carbon fiber straight up - it's a composite of woven carbon fiber cloth and the same kind of tough plastic that Taco beds have (or, sometimes aluminum) to balance the brittleness. It makes a very light, strong material that is also flexible and puncture resistant. But, calling it carbon fiber is a lot like Kraft calling the cheese Real™ :)

My 17 was built fri. eve. Luv it- but has quirks. One bad- after 7 months( 2,900 mi) from stop sign-turning right, lost power 6 times now- coast side hwy, still running- but foot floor nothing. 3 trips dealership= they say no codes so am on my own- cannot duplicate. Scary-. Talked Texas and anyone anywhere- the forums mostly- no answer. It shifts constantly( average 8-9 times from a stop- slight hesitation at times( used to this now) loss power= no. Luv black/ red interior. Not great mileage- maybe 15-16- is gutless. But think I got a fri. special. Surges allot too- so careful backing up or behind someone. But not all do these. Have a 2014- its awesome.

I was one of the unfortunates that had their truck impounded in April. Can't really blame my dealer, they were great, when they finally got the parts from Toyota, they had it done in a day, and the service rep waited after hours on a Friday for me to get their. My service rep was funny, I said, give me some gasket material and an Xacto knife and I will cut a couple out and guarantee they won't leak! He laughed and said, "yah, I could to." The problem was, one differential locked up and the truck went off the road and the lawyers all panicked. I can picture them in their little cubicles, some rolled up in the fetal position crying, some running back and forth screaming and waving their hands and others holding up signs that said, "the end of the world is here!" It took them three months to figure out a simple fix. I am loving my 16 again, but Toyota has left a bitter taste in my mouth. If I had a bad dealer like some of the rest of you, I would have sold it! On a side note, both our Toyota's are owned by Larry Miller, and I drive to the other side of town for service, because the one close to me is the worst.
