My 2019 Tahoe 4x4 gets better gas mileage than my 2021 OR DCLB 4x4, these trucks are not known for their fuel savings.

Why not just keep the Raptor and get a beater Corolla for commuting?

Move on bud. Big tires and lift never equals mpg on any truck. Look good or (not and) or perform good. You can't have both. Physics has laws you cannot break.

I got right around 20mpg all highway on skinny 33’s and a 2 inch lift, 65-70mph. I also got 14mpg with the same setup towing our pop up trailer. It’s not a unicorn ask, it’s all about driving style and speed. I drive pretty conservatively and generally run at or 5 above the speed limit.

To whom does a daily stop-and-go traffic truck with 33s look "cool"? I mean, it looks cooler than the guy in a 6.2L Raptor on 35s doing the same thing, I guess. If daily driving in stop and go traffic and fuel efficiency is a concern but you need to tow, get a diesel 2WD truck. Be smart. Smart is cool.

that’s fair. I think I have my answer. There’s no way to squeak out 20 mpg and have a decent truck stance. I don’t think I wouldn’t call 33” tires “big” as far as tires go, maybe for this platform.

thank you all for the help. I have hope that one day a truck will be available with 25+ mpg on 35” tires and that won’t be a giant ask. Until then, looks like I’ll keep what I have. I really appreciate the help and insight.

Just out of curiosity when people slap turbo kits on the 3.5 do they get better fuel economy depending on how aggressive the tune is? Just thinking aloud basically cus fords ecoboost is no slouch and gets decent mileage on a full size truck. Someone just should swap one of them in a taco. That would be a fun truck to drive.

2in lift on 285 75 16s e rated, avg 14ish in town, up to 17 on hwy as long as not faster than 70 mph, any faster and it's 15-16mpg. Last weekend cruised 80 mph on a trip 175 miles and got right at 15mpg..

I'm getting 16 to 17 on 265 75 16 stock height 3 skids and sliders...though the speed limit around here is a reccomendation. Still jealous of your ride Jason

I think you’re trying too hard to compare two very different things. A perfect example is my dads F150.. on the highway that thing barely rides at 1k RPM. Despite being a v8 on 33s, it’ll get better MPG on the highway than me. Yes it’s a v8, but that engine barely struggles.
there are many factors to consider, like gearing. Not just from the rear diff, but the transmission. Also consider that rotational mass (heavier wheels and tires) take far more energy to move than static mass.

The taco is a v6, with piss poor gearing for 33s. The engine also loves to rev high To be in the power band. All bad combos for good mpg.

I’ve done 255/85/16 and now 285/75/17. You won’t get 20mpg. Best I’ve seen is 18 and I’m usually at 65/70mph. The minute you get any sort of an incline, say goodbye to your mpg. Gears will help your mpg a little, but it’ll make it more drivable than improve mpgs. I would say my combined average is like 16mpg.

Made a short trip on the way to a trail with everything stock. On flat highways going 75 averaged abt 21-22. During the 30 ish miles that I gained abt 2k feet elevation I was lucky to get 15 going right at 65. I may need to update TSB but also have no clue since dealer was hesitant to answer anything related and haven't found someone to scan my truck, I was amazed that the truck wanted to go down to 3rd at one point.

I think you should get a cheap 4banger for a commuter and keep the raptor. Tacoma is the easiest to live with truck I've ever owned (and I've had a lot) but it's underwhelming compared to the 6.2 Raptor.

My contribution is 18.8 for mostly freeway with the 265/75r16 E rated tires I just had to have. Around town it spits out 15-16.

Also 14mpg in that 6.2 Raptor is like the guys on here who get 24mpg. I drove a friends for a day and got 10 that thing loves the gas pump

I also was hitting the same 17ish on my 265s, going to heavy 285s took a toll, but fuck it, a few more bucks a tank I can deal with.

My stock SR got 25.5 mpg for the first 2k miles. After I added LT (10 ply)tires it dropped to 21.5. cruises set to 66~71. The adaptive cruise will slow you down til 28mph,then it shuts off.

    Mine are 235/85/16 Gen ATx.

Try to have your taco flashed with ovtune. Gained a couple mpg and it shifts like it should now. It’s like I have a new truck.

I have wildpeak tires, it’s about 32”. Bed cover and hyper steel bumper. If I keep under 2k rpm on highway. I get about 20mpg. In city is about 18.5mpg
