In my 2021 OR DCSB I just recently got 21 MPG but that was on a 5 hr drive down the same highway and I was trying to get the best gas mileage I could so I stayed right at 70 MPH. However, just last week I went on about a 4 hr drive through the hill country and I was at about 17.3 MPG on the way there and 18 MPG on the return trip. I was actually driving in my normal heavy footed ways for this trip between 70 to 80 MPH. Completely stock truck. So to be honest, I'm not disappointed at all with the gas mileage on this truck but time will tell.

Lift, bigger tires, bumpers, or having a truck full of people you will see a decrease in mileage. It all comes down to how you drive. Is 20+ mpg achievable? Yes. Is it likely? No.

Did you recalibrate the speedometer and gauges or are you calculating by hand? I want to believe this, but I find it hard to believe. No offense meant, just pure curiosity.

I average 24 mpg. Best I've seen is 28.6 on 99 mile trip. Love it. Highway is 2 hours away from me so all in town driving and two lane roads

I went on a 90ish mile trip into the Kenai Mt the other day. I averaged 21mpg according to the truck, and I was in 4hi the entire time at 55mph average speed. 2020 DCSB v6 auto. Getting 21mpg in 4hi blew my mind. My personal best with the truck, was 24mpg on flat highway in the fall in 2wd. My usual average combined mpg is around 17-18.

That was after the trip, and 70ish miles of combined driving.

    For what it's worth ...
2020 4x4 AC with the 2.7 .... 2.6K miles on it now. Stock tires - 245/75/16's (Firestone 'Destinations' .. Not a great tire, but not garbage either...) ...
I mostly run in CC and let the computer do the work...
Toyota says I should get 21 mpg Hwy ... I'm getting just a bit below 23. Just a bit. So I'm good with that. (This in 2WD )
I use the ACC all the time ... Highway. I love it. Stop-n-go, I do myself.
If you're using yer rig for 95% commute time, I would see no reason to put big-ass tires on it. Other than what looks good to you, no reason, especially if yer looking for mpg.

I use to get 14.5 mpg pulling the same weight with my 4.7 tundra. Now pull a 2k lb. or slightly more boat...average just about 19 mpg. with the 2020 v6 tacoma.

I never believe the onboard mileage computers. They usually read too high or tool low. You never quite know, so l always with it out by hand. That way l know for sure.

They seem to be pretty accurate on theses trucks though, anytime l hand calculate it is +/- .1 or .2 of the number on the dash.

    X2.

Was gonna say the same thing. My screen shows like .1-.2 mpg better than actual hand calculating. I hand calculate every fill up.

I don’t believe any of you getting 25mpg. Do you never go uphill? Mine is typically ~250 miles from full til 1/4 which is usually 13-14 gallons.

The problem is, a lot of dudes dont post how they achieved it. Real world driving with w v6 lets say 50/50 gets you 18 mpgs on not too modified taco. Hwy only or rural roads can go up to 25 no problem. I can do 23.5 in my manual on hwy all day long, which is rated for less mpgs due to gearing and im on C load 266/70/17 AT tires.

    Amen.

I own a 2018 SR5 2wd and my son has a 2017 TRD OR 4wd. He took a 4 mpg hit (From 21 down to 17 hwy mpg.) in his upgrade to P265/75/16 Nitto Terra Grappler tires from Michelin Defenders. The 38 lb to 50 lb per tire jump hurt. It also made the truck quite a bit more sluggish.

In other news, I upgraded my 245/70/16 tires to the Michelin's he took off and they work great! I actually get a slight bit better mileage and they ride/wear like a dream. 33s will look much cooler, but cool can expensive in many ways. :)

P.S. I don't know what kind of camper you are pulling, but I have a fairly extensive post on pulling my 4k lb travel trailer that might be worth the read. I definitely wouldn't install larger tires if I were pulling anything 3k lbs or heavier.
