Are the hood adhesive issues solved on the 2017 flat hood tacomas?

The only thing that they have *solved* is the crank shaft positioning sensor.

Everything else, that is a problem on the 2016, is a problem on the 2017.

My OR came off the line in late July and the hood is fine. No flutter and no separation.

I figured they wouldn't fix the hood issue right away. I called the dealership if they knew about the issue and they didn't...

What some people don't seem to get (or ignore?), is that every warranty issue costs Toyota money and they know exactly what goes wrong with these trucks. The dealer submits an invoice through Toyota's electronic system and every thing done to the truck is entered into corporate's database.

Toyota knows exactly which vehicles developed a hood problem and why it happened and how much each of those hoods cost them. (and every other issue)

And you think Toyota waited until the first 2017 model came down the line behind the last 2016 to change the adhesive?

The hood on my 2016 was fine until I drove under gusty/windy conditions. The wind was blowing from the side, and it was bad enough that I had to hold the steering wheel at an angle. This incident is what broke the hood glue for me, and now it shakes from just normal driving.

I just took my truck in for the 4th time for various things plus my 10k service. They finally agreed that the hood is an issue. I'm waiting for other parts to come in for the drive line vibration TSB and then I'm taking my truck back. They said they have to get a special adhesive for the hood and Toyota would also send a special tech for it.

I had my hood reglued and own a 17OR. Luckily they used the soft pliable glue and not that hard shit. Seems like they did a good job.

Yea, there have been reports of these failures on 2017's including someone who had a 9/2017 build.

Squirted more of the same splooge into it. I actually traded the truck and don't have the problem yet on the new one. I looked and it's the same adhesive, so it's just a matter of time.

My hood was fluttering on driver side while driving into wind at 40 mph.

It was easily fixed with a $5.00 Tube of GE silicone I had in the garage. Good for over 400 degrees.

Easier than going to dealer and better than doing a new hood or repaint.

No more flutter. The silicone dries clear. No worries about hood bulging when using foam.
Picture is during application half way done. I went over it a second time to fill in all gaps in hood bracing.

Last picture is side of large center hood brace with missing glue blob location.

My neighbor has a Taco built in Texas at end of Summer 2017. He has small 1 inch blobs of glue on his hood.

How's the silicone adhesive on the hood holding up?

I had my hood repaired for this issue a few weeks ago, I waited until I had 200 miles left on my bumper to bumper. 2018 SR5.

Yeah, I'm procrastinating too. I did have them note the issue on my first service, I just need to make a body shop appointment and drop her off. Seems like a good winter task, while there is to do.

Took mine in today to try to get it done before the bumper to bumper is up. They said "they are all that way. That's normal". Was worth a shot

@DAS Taco its the dots of adhesive that are placed throughout the vehicle during build. if your hood, tailgate or doors rattle its a good chance the adhesive has lost its grip. Easy Fix with the adhesives mentioned in this thread. Cheers!

In my opinion epoxy based adhesives are best and last longest, that being said if the application requires flexibility then that's another story. Like windshield on a vehicle it must gave an adhesive that permits some flex while remaining rigidity that where polyurethane based adhesives are implemented.
