    Hey yall,

This is my first time posting on this site. I just bought a new 2017 last month and have had several problems, some of which are being repaired by the dealership and I'd like to share the dealership response/resolution in case any of yall have similar problems.

    Problems:
    1) Hood vibrates at speeds over 30-35 mph.

    2) Tachometer intermittently doesn't move smoothly. It "ticks" like the second hand of a clock.

    Brought it to dealership:
I told the dealership that based on my research, many 2017 tacomas have issues with the hood vibrating and that it seems as if its an issue with the adhesives under the hood.

Based on my research on this site, some people with similar tach problems didn't receive any help from dealership because the problem was intermittent and the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. I took videos of the problem in case they couldn't replicate the problem. Luckily, as I was pulling into the dealership, the tachometer was acting up so I was able to show them immediately.

    Dealership response:
After being at the dealer for about 2 hours, they told me that the hood problem was caused by adhesive issues. They said their body shop will be able to fix the problem.

As far as the tachometer, they verified the problem but did not have a resolution. They said they needed to "call their engineers in California to figure out what to do." The dealer estimated it will take about a week to repair the issues and gave me a loaner.

I will update this post when I have more information

    all tore up already
New car dealers service departments suck. If you go in knowing they cant diagnose any issue and can only do what others have solved you will have a better experience. The tach issue for example. It would take about 3 minutes to plug in a scan tool to tell if the issue was coming from ecm or in cluster.

Welcome to tw and the frustrating life that is toyota dealer service.

I just looked that up but it is for 2016 trip meter resetting. Doesn't show anything about 2017 tachometer problems

    Welcome rdizzle!

I don't understand how they don't have have a resolution for the tach, If it's verified as not working as it should it ought to be replaced end of story.
But what suspect as to what's really going on is that they're waiting for the Toyota field engineer to approve the replacement.
As some members have had issues with tach also, please do keep us updated.

It's coming in the mid model facial uplift before the 4th gen comes out in another ten yrs.

Thank you! Why do you think it is suspect? What could it mean that they are waiting for approval?

And yes, I will keep yall posted

    Update:
After waiting three days without hearing anything from the dealership, I decided to call for an updated. As expected, the hood vibrations were caused by the adhesives losing contact under the hood.

As far as the tachometer problem, also as expected, they said that they needed to put in a new cluster and that it would still be another 3-4 days until the vehicle is ready. I'll keep you guys updated once I pick up my truck and let you know how everything is

It means the Toyota field tech will ask and or direct the stealer tech into troubleshooting to find the fault, and the Toyota field will make the final approval on repair, not the dealer tech.

    Update:
Dealership says cluster is on backorder. Truck won't be ready for at least 2 more weeks but it will probably be much longer than that.
