Has anyone had experience with their hood latches / releases not working properly?

Mine doesn't pop the hood open anymore, but it will release it. You just need to get your fingers under the gaps around the hood and open it.

Doesn't make the audible release noise either.

When you pull the release inside the truck, there's no wall of force to overcome, it's linear all the way.

I've seen a few posts of this but no solutions. Figured I'd revisit before just buying a new latch mechanism.

I noticed the same issue with mine a few months ago.
Pull the release lever, no resistance, no hood pop, gotta pry it up with my fingers in the gaps.
Been meaning to take it to the dealer, but ya'know :notsure:

Every bushing on the truck has been replaced in the last year.

Did your hood latch start misbehaving at around the same time?

You need to adjust these guys. I backed mine all the way out and then re-tightened one rotation…that did the trick for me. Good luck

Mime did this from new 2016 about 9 months ago a notice that what I thought was a plastic fastener in the lower center of the latch that was attached to the vertical center support was gone so I looked down at my skid plate and saw a machinescrew it has a plastics cap on it it must have been loose from factory put it back in and fixed the problem and also my hood flex

So backing out the adjustment stops didn't fix it.

Tightening them did not fix it. Trying every other position with the hood stops didn't work.

Asked my buddy, who is a Toyota Master Mechanic. He says they usually just liberally spray with silicone and cycle the hood latch 20 times. I used a half can of silicone, cycled a ton, it will "pop" up about one out of every 5 times, but the hood release still has no resistance and makes no audible click.

Guess I will buy a new latch.

maybe the cable from the release lever to the latch needs adjusting or has become disconnected

Maybe a couple strategically place tennis balls will pop the lid for you.?

Sometimes you just gotta get creative!

I bet hood struts would solve the problem.

How are hood struts going to pop the hood for me?

I just installed struts and they don't POP the hood. That's why I said a couple tennis balls to create a pressure to POP the lid when the lever is pulled. If they can't pop it up to at least give you an idea of the issue then there is something else going on. And so the process of elimination begins.

Hood struts and definitely no tennis balls for God's sake are needed here. If adjustments to those bump stops did not do the trick then it has to be something wrong with the latch release assembly.

    Just another thought.
I have a daughter who was going to pay a dealer $500 to replace her trunk latch on her car. I had a look at and took a hammer to the catch piece/not the latch, until it was straight and it worked like new. Total cost $0.
