I actually ran through part of the hood on the bottom.

 

I'm mobile at the moment but just had to say. Damn. New favorite engine pic, that has to be the cleanest engine and installation I've seen. I am now en route to my home for a change of underwear...wait... underwear and pants.

 

You the man! I just hope it was warm enough to get everything adhered correctly. Installed it in the garage after driving about 25 miles it everything was nice and hot. Used some tubular foam weather striping that I had left over from a BakFlip install on my old Tundra to hold the wiring since I didn't have any tape. If it comes off I'll do something else. Thanks for doing this. Who knows why Toyota doesn't have lights, but it's good for you.

 

I'm getting the sense that Thomas read about the number of people who complained about how much their new lights made it obvious they needed to do some cleaning and went and cleaned it before lighting it up. Smart man.

 

Btw, Thomas- your containment for the loom has Brad and my gears turning. That is quite the fine idea you have there.

 

We'll see if it's a fine idea or not. I spent about 20 mins on the install after about 20 mins of looking through my various spare parts. The weather stripping sure was easy to install, just slip it on after you pull the lights through the two holes at the bottom of the hood.

There are some nice little clips on the firewall that hold the windshield washer hose. I still might get a few of those, but they will require drilling a hole in the support structure of hood. After installing the hood lifts, I'm ok drilling into the hood.

I did use acetone to get things clean for all the surfaces, even the weather stripping.

I've managed to keep the engine clean since the SC install because I just like looking at it...It makes the most pleasant whirring sound...

 

I was sad when I got home today and found the lights dis-bonding from the hood. The adhesive is stuck to the paint, but it appears to be coming off of the lights. I guess if I can't get it to stay I'll keep your switch (one of the coolest features) and get some little KC lights: http://www.kchilites.com/catalog/product/view/id/483/s/2-cyclone-led-light/category/375/. Lots of holes on the hood structure to adhere something like this. My weather stripping is stuck solid.

 

I had same thing. I wound up using some 3M double sided tape and its been good since.

I had some, but yeah i think you can get it at auto parts or Home Depot.

Without intending to step on Brad's toes here, I'm going to step up a bit, briefly.

It appears as though our supplier has sent us a defective batch of LED strips, at least in terms of adhesion. Clearly the same problem keeps happening, regardless of proper installation technique.

Brad and I are in active communication as to how to address the problem. But rest assured, we will take care of this so that we don't have to have each of you head off to Homey Despot to fix something that should be ready to go out of the box.

Hold tight while we work out a solution. We'll let you know as soon as we come up with something.

In the meantime, if you have received a kit since December and have NOT installed it yet, hold off and wait for our solution -- please do not mail it back to Brad! Please PM/email Brad if you fall under this category.
We will put all pending orders on hold while we fix what stock we have on hand. Once they are fixed, Brad will be in touch with those who have a current order pending.
If you have installed a kit and have had adhesion issues, and have not solved the problem yourself, please PM/email Brad and let him know. This way we can have a list of those who need a fix, once we come up with that fix.

On behalf of Brad, the operations behind this little venture, and myself, the inventor and assembler of the actual kits, I'd like to apologize for this mess. We'll make it right, one way or another.

I'll have to keep this brief as I've been rather tied up lately, and now that im finally getting on here it's, of course, 2am..
I could not have said it better than Shane. We've been discussing the failures of the kit installations lately and made the observation that this is the first winter the PRO kit's have ever been through. A likely cause for any bad adhesion, but after seeing the adhesive sticking to the hood and not the strip, it's obvious what's going on here.

We are working on a solution and, as mentioned above, if you have a kit and have NOT installed it please hold off. If you have a kit that is falling off I suggest taking some measure to prevent it from drooping further into your engine bay , but before you do, please take pictures if you can!!
It's pretty clear what the problem is but more pictures will help us complete our investigation and determine all factors that caused this problem.

I have still not installed my kit here in wintery Massachusetts and will hold until the outcome of this. Lights look amazing and can't wait to get this in

 

They do look good when they're stuck to the hood. I think I'll have to either remove them this weekend or get some tape. I'm afraid that they'll fall down and get in the fan or something.

 

That is what I would be afraid of

 

More sadness today. I got home from work and the entire thing had fallen off. No glue attached to the lights. I had a moment of hesitation and then just cut the wire. The thought of the getting sucked into the belts cleared my mind.

 

If your strip isn't sticking, but the loom is till holding, you can zip-tie (or twist-tie) it to the loom until we get our solution out to you.
If your strip isn't sticking, and the loom is also dangling, you can coil the whole thing and stuff it in the space between the hood hinge and the brake master cylinder.
There's no reason to cut anything.

 

Too late. Too much money in SC parts to have something falling into the belt. I'm kinda rethinking adhesive lights in general. Maybe the engine compartment is too hot, not sure. I really like how it looks though. I thought it looked way cool.

There is almost no adhesive left on the lights. They will hardly stick to themselves.
