So, I opened my hood yesterday to start on my bumper install and found this.

I installed my kit back in December, checked it a few times/dates later and all was good. This is the first time I've opened my hood since then. :(

It is very unlikely, LED's draw VERY little power and they will automatically turn off when you close the hood anyways. In theory, even if you left your hood open for days and your battery dies then it was on it was on it's last leg anyways.

That led strips won't stay glue to the hood due to amount of heat getting from the engine. If I do that I will get the solid one that you can screw some where under the hood. IMHO..

Did the adhesive let go of the light strip or from the hood? I can't really tell from the pic.

Sorry but this is false info, these are proven to with stand the under hood temps. If it let go from the hood then it wasn't cleaned / installed properly, if the let go from the light strip then it was from the defective batch of LED strips.

Adhesive let go from the hood.

Best I can tell, the right side (towards the battery) let go first and snapped the LED chain, then the left side let go at some poi tabs it all fell onto the engine.

This is a 3-1/2 month install, and the truck sits in the garage when not being used (I work from home) so it's not seen temps over 70 degrees F. The hood underside was washed and wiped with isopropyl alcohol before install.

I'd say the certainty of your statement has been disproved. See above.

You need to really clean it with Brakleen. Alcohol won't do it well enough. You could also have one from the defective batch. Don't worry the seller will make it right.

Have you read much of this thread? Actually I stand bye my statement. It would be better to let the seller address this as opposed to me proving my point. I have every bit of confidence that the end user will be happy. :)

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
Inventor and builder of the kits here to answer a few questions and issues.

The strips draw about a half an amp. That means that you should be able to leave your hood open for three months and still start your truck. If not, then you have a weak battery, or some other drain.

The very first, original Hood Light is on my truck. It is going on three years, without ANY problem of any kind. I have put 50,000 miles on it. 90% of my trips (which totals over half the total miles on my truck) are in the desert, mostly Death Valley, mostly pushing my truck hard (sustained engine temps of over 200*), many in the summertime with air temps never going below 90* (usually over 100*). So any concerns about heat are moot.

The recent failure pics, and explanation of prep procedures, tells me there was an installation/preparation problem, which places the fault with the installer. The bad batches leave the adhesive on the hood, not affecting the zip-tie tabs at all; because both the strip adhesive and the tabs came off, this tells me the surface was not completely clean.
We will be happy to ship you replacement adhesive for a nominal charge (Brad has the pricing worked out, not me). However, I see you also need a new strip. Contact Brad and discuss with him -- he will decide how to proceed.

NOTE! Not all kits built from the defective supplier are defective kits. Many hold up fine and have no issues, assuming installation was done properly.

Is there much of a difference between the 2 kits other than warranty and assembly? I'll spend the extra money just for the warranty thanks

I got the pro kit because I wanted the soldered and heat shrinked connections. My solder skills leave a little to be desired.

The pre assembled wire loom is also nice for the run in the engine bay but I think in the future I might remove part of it so that I can conceal the wire inside the hood. Currently I just have it routed on the underside of the hood.
