My 2014 regular cab’s hood outer sheet metal has separated from the stamped frame that provides it structure. It appears the sheet metal was held in place with an adhesive. Has anyone in the tacoverse had this problem and know what adhesive was used to “stick” it on? TIA.

Manufacturer uses adhesive instead of a weld because the weld would show on the outside of the hood.

Thanks for the info. I need to fix this as I’m trekking cross country with the truck in a couple of months.

it's pretty normal for it to seperate. almost every tacoma i have seen it has seperated a bit. i think it's more to act as a cushion and not as an adhesive.

Yeah this happened on my 06, above 80mph the whole hood skin “flaps” in the wind. I was thinking about riveting mine in place since the hood is already crap. Or overlaying a louvered vent and securing all 3 layers together.

IMG_2885.jpg I guess I’ll update this with my IDGAF mod. Since my truck is garbage… I just drilled holes at some of the key points where the support structure should wet up with the outer sheetmetal layer and riveted it together. I’ll probably spray the hood with bedliner to match the roof at some point since the clearcoat is also failing :notsure:. Hard to see but it worked well and no more flapping at highway speeds

I know this is common in the miata world, most of those guys use some sort of 3M or SEM noise/vibration control which comes in a 2 part material like epoxy. Some even just used RTV or regular panel bond and stuff, or even wedging rubber washers in

Not for me @$50 per tube. I had thought about using something like that combined with some downward force from a ratchet strap or simmilar rigging to keep the 2 pieces pressed together until it cured but I don’t have that much down time since it’s my daily (I drive a lot) and also in my case my hood had some large dents like someone walked on it so the gaps between the outer skin and the support frame were really large.

In hindsight I think my truck was a flood salvage even though the title isn’t a salvage or rebuild and the carfax was clean so…

I used this to keep the support trusts stick to the hood panel and keep the vibe out.

Basically free, reliable truck so yeah…

Traded my Hummer for it 2yrs ago and haven’t had a 2nd thought. Got it with a new frame, rear brakes, rear leafs, new clutch, etc. got good bones but definitely not a looker. Been doing upgrades that make sense along the way but I’m done babying cars.

Started with old VWs, then more expensive Audis, rolled jeeps for a few years, realized it’s true: Just Empty Every Pocket.

Throwing money at cars and chasing looks is pointless. And I’d like to afford to retire some day so…
