I believe the 'correct' material to use is 3M NVH 4274.

Yep, they have been a shakin' since 2005. Thing is...it is more noticeable on Gen 3 models because the hood is four inches longer. We've had three Gen 2 Tacomas and now I have a Gen 3 Sport and because of the scoop, it isn't a shakin'. I wonder if the problem has been corrected on the 2022's because I am considering buying a 2022 Off Road. But then, I m starting to like the scoop and I don't need no stinkin' crawl control.

Longer than that. The hood on my ‘93 T100 has done this since it was almost new. It used to be a hot topic on the T100 forum I belonged to back in the day. Some people tried adhesives, others wedged a matchbook in the gap. I never paid much attention to it, even today it still flex’s but hasn’t harmed anything. I’ve never noticed if the hood on my Taco does it or not.

pretty sure the scoop helps against flexing of the metal structure because of the extra bends factored into its design

A dab of flex seal will solve your problem. I know a guy who built a boat out of the stuff...Ran it through the everglades.
