Funny thing about black on MGM, nobody notices it. :(

    I know it's there, so that's something. I guess.

So I got my decal yesterday, out of the tube it looks to be in good condition. It came with a little credit card size squeegee thing and some instructions....
Clean, remove paper backing apply soapy water to truck and decal side thoroughly, position and smooth out.

Then it says to wait for 3 hours!?? The instructions are from 247 Skins, however, when I youtubed an install video for 247 skins, after they smooth out bubbles, they immediately remove the top clear protector film....

Do I really need to wait 3 hours? Or pull it up once its smoothed out?

I contacted a few local installers and they all quoted me like $300 just to install.... hard pass.

    Roger that.
I did some more youtubing and found that after doing the wet application, the water needs to fully dry, thus allowing the decal to adhere to the hood.
So yeah, Ill park her in the sun for 3 hours after install.
I looked at it yesterday and I think between me and the wifey, we could knock it out pretty well.

Easy. Just some measuring and soapy water will do the trick!

Wrapped a few car, trucks and my motorcycle. These newer vinyls don't really need soapy water. They do not really stick down until you press them down with a squeegee. So you can place and lift, place and lift a few times.

Don't stretch the vinyl very much. They tend to thin out and then you wind up with the sun burst wrinkles you were talking about. Yes heat is a friend, but like stretching, it thins it out. I have been able to shrink slightly over stretched vinyl back with heat. But it only works for small areas....like 2"x2".

The knifeless tape from 3M is great stuff. Lay it first. But leave 6" hang out each end. Sometimes the line breaks before you can cut the vinyl, and your left with a very tiny amount to make a clean cut. Very hard to do. When it comes time to cut it. Split the cutting tape line, and fold the string over the top of the line still under the vinyl, with about 1" of loop hanging out... Like a loop for you shoot laces. Then place a finger over the edge of the vinyl where the cut is to start. Then pull, and don't lift your finger. Makes the vinyl stay in place, and not cut jagged.

Hope this helps some. I don't think that some of these hood scallop vinyls that others are showing are any easier to put on. They would need the soapy water treatment.

Here is a pic of the motorcycle tank I did. Took me 4 hours to do just this.

So it can be done. Just take your time!

Just had the hood on my utility SR done to cut the glare. Seems to flow well with my unpainted bumper. Might even help shed the pool-boy look.

I wasn’t able to find any info in your profile, are you a wrap installer? I’m in Vista in North County and would like some things wrapped. Shoot me a message if so.

Curious if anyone has a hood stamp cut file for those who own their own vinyl plotters.

Been thinking about wrapping my hood, tailgate, and roof but also own a vinyl plotter and would love to just pre-cut everything. Not sure anyone would want to give up their files though considering how much folks charge for vinyl.

i went with a company i found called supdec online. they have an ebay store, an etsy store, and a website. i emailed them about and existing design and i got what you asee in my thumbnail. i will say, it lasted 2 years. i recently removed it. i'm going to have it redone locally with some higher quality material.
