If you want a quiet truck you got to go all the way.

All this mess, night and day difference, I was losing my sanity and this allowed me to enjoy riding in the truck without music playing again.

And yet even still I hear the ticking there's minimum MLV which is what actually cancels sound, this is mainly deadening and I'm still waiting on materials to do the floor which will be more dynapad (MLV) and that should help, I can hear most sound coming into the cab is from the floor now.

I'm happy but it's still a Toyota, not a Maybach.

lol. much respect! did you take any before and after measurements? That is insane.
Even if you don't have before...after would be interesting.
The app i used is "Decibel X" for iphone. Simple and pretty useful for this purpose.
    There is an android version.
I found the free iphone version great. apparently it has been around for a while and early free versions got complaints. I did not try android.

All this sound deadening material reduces your already low payload capacity. Suck it up boys, run with the rattles 'n hums.

Better yet, ditch your 17" inch wheels for 16" and slap on some 33s. Kills pretty much all road noise.

My opinion (which no one cares or respects) is...this is a truck folks. You need to set expectations accordingly. No where in the product design is it advertised quietest in its class.

I have my 2021 DBLC and a 2021 ES350 F sport. One has non JBL radio, on has Mark Levinson. When I switch vehicles it is worlds different. Because they are different products. We should temper our expectations accordingly. Then you will understand it’s design differently and not be disappointed.

just my opinion, and no one usually cares

    lol. i care o_O
this thread is dead unless Key-Rei posts some info about his quieting project. Not for me either but love that someone finds it worth doing.
thread has served its purpose. got some info out that hopefully will help someone and got a few opinions and ideas and even picked up a troll or two.
Saw you over in muffler thread going OT about cats. My buddy is sitting on deck with me right now. Always good to find people that understand cats even if they go OT. Not to discount dogs or any other creature (except maybe humans).

I have stripped and sound deadened the entire cab. I know it isn't a Lexus, but I would prefer if my passengers also had a comfortable and enjoyable ride.
    DSC_2911-01.jpg

Added STP Noise block, a type of thin MLV, as a third later of sound deadening to the rear of the cab.
Wanted to cover more, but was too lazy to fully take apart the cab again...

I also installed Kickers CS fronts and KS rears, and the sound deadening really does help to amplify the sound.

Added open ended speaker baffles to my Kickers speakers to protect it from the elements and help direct sound.
Also tidied up the wires and some egg crate closed cell foam for the back wave from the speakers.

impressive! if you can, when u r done, can you get some sort of measurement of how quiet it is stopped and idling outdoors (no reflections off walls, etc)? i am curious just how effective this stuff can be.
i posted app i used a few ago, if that is of interest.
what did you do for a hoodliner? :D JK you guys are doing it right.

If you just needed something to accomplish, then I give you props for tackling a solution to a non existing problem.

As for my passengers enjoyment, they are lucky they aren't walking or taking the bus. My wife feels the same way as I do, get in, drive, be happy it's paid for and still runs. :D

A problem can exist for anything, and thus a solution for anything. Really depends on how much you value certain aspects of your vehicle.

With the single purpose of just sound deadening, I got far better audio quality, interior sound (phonecalls, music, sexy time) doesn't leak outside, no more sun baked oven hot cabin, A/C gets colder faster and last longer, lower road noise, no more tire hum, I can see rain but don't hear it, no exhaust drone, happy passengers, etc.

Other Tacoma owners also think my truck came with some premium package.

I don't think it will be useful in my case, cause i do have a louder exhaust, which can still be heard.

I have actually mostly finished this a while back, during the peak of the pandemic. Two layers all around (CLD+CCF) with the rear half of the cab at three layers with the MLV. There is MLV that I want to put in the front half of the truck, but too lazy to take out the carpet again lol. Also after a certain point, it it's just diminishing returns.

I'm pretty satisfied with the results this far.

Well done. Sounds like you were smart about the materials used and applied it rationally. I'm sure what some of us would describe as deficiencies,
Toyota would have ignored for cost/benefit realities. You are at one end of the spectrum and the "it's a truck - just drive it" crowd is at the other.
Toyota just looked for the profitability sweet spot, as it should be. If most buyers did not care about having wheels on the truck, we would not get them.

I think there is actually some shaped foam insulation, maybe for a weak attempt at tick attenuation, near the high pressure fuel pump.
If I am right, I may look closer at that at some point. I have not found the part in the service manual yet.

As for the ticking sound, either from the injectors or the fuel pump, i honestly do not notice it. I only hear it when I'm outside of the truck.

The OP needs to discover the radio volume knob. Every Toyota ticks.
And, from what I read, if you were sitting on the hood your tick would have gotten quieter. In the cab? It's all firewall transmitted, not hood.
    You guys... smh.
Edit... just read another of the OP's posts... quit listening to other people and use common sense. You seem like a smart guy. Smart guys lead, not follow stupid youtube videos.
