Question for everyone: did you put your rack together, and then mount it to the roof? Or did you do build it while pieces were mounted to the roof already?

I installed mounting brackets and silicon, then assembled the rack on the ground. From earlier posts I used the ideas to put the door seal on the front fairing, I also recommend putting it on the forward portion of the side pieces to minimize friction with the roof during the install.

I stood in the bed and had wrapped a cargo strap around my back (attached to the 2nd cross bar) to better distribute the load and make it easy to move into place.

Well I got it installed but good lord it is loud above 40!! I put the rubber seal on the wind deflector and covered the two holes in the deflector (sheet metal cut to size and epoxied). Any other tips to keep wind noise down? Wondering if covered the holes somehow made it louder

It's a Roam 6.5ft wide awning. So 6.5 ft wide, 7ft out when extended. Very well made and it was about $200 I believe. I ordered it through a local vendor to save on shipping costs. They come in a variety of sizes and colors and was super easy to install.

Thanks man, great pics. Last question, how did you mount the awning? I’m getting ready to order both and want to do it right one time

The awning came with L brackets and mounting hardware. I needed to raise up the brackets a couple inches as otherwise it would be rubbing on the top part of the doors (which I didn't want obviously) so I used a couple pieces of strut I had laying around and bolted it onto the top of the rack and mounted the L brackets to that. It gave me just enough space to the awning wasn't rubbing. You can kinda see what I'm talking about in this photo.

If you need me to I can snap a few closer shots of it. Happy to help!

Rack came in today and was able to install! Really no issues at all. Nothing missing, only a couple tiny spots chipped in the powder coat. Overall very happy with this, havent decided if I want to reinstall the roof stripping or not. Probably been said but for those having trouble with install keep everything just hand tight with wiggle room until its fully assembled then just tighten every bolt in reverse order that you installed. Didn't install any rubber strip yet on the faring, not sure how the older ones were but this mounted with some good clearance of the roof and the faring has a rib welded in the whole width of it to stop flexing in the wind while driving (didn't have to drive anywhere after the install so I can't speak to wind noise).

I took a chance on em, picked it up back in December since i had a RTT on the way. Haven't installed the tent yet because I live alone and the damn thing is 200lbs, waiting on a buddy to come help me get it up lol. Bought off ebay. Instructions aren't too clear, and seems to come with some extra hardware that I have no idea how to use yet lol. Powdercoat was alright, came chipped in a few spots and chipped some more myself during the install but i just covered it up with some black plasti dip. The hardware provided isn't stainless steel, and a lot of it doesn't seem to fit quite right with the crush washers included, I just asked the seller for a second set of hardware, and doubled up on their normal size washers after spraying them all down with some Rustoleum. Install took about 2 hours, but I also took my time with it, you could probably get it done in 30-1hr if you're speedy. Other than the hardware, I have nothing bad to say about it. Come with a bolt to carry a spare tire on top, as well as a Hi Lift bracket mount and 2 other mounts that are supposedly for Rotopax but i haven't used them yet to be sure they fit. Since I leave it on I invested in some Tacomapocalypse security nuts for them to mount on the bed rails. It's on a DCSB, not much room to move it back and forth along the rails, but on a long bed you certainly would.

    How do you mean exactly?

Like how strong does it seem? Quite sturdy. After install I stoop up on top of it and jumped up and down, felt very secure. mounting into bed rails also seems quite secure. instead of T-nuts as advertised, they provide the 6 plates that slide into the rails, each with 2 screw holes for the mounting holes on the rack itself. one weird thing about the install...i had to unscrew the screws holding the bed rails to the bed to slide the plates past them, then resecure the screws after. may be better to invest in T nuts instead but honestly the plates that were included feel very sturdy.

Plans for the rack include a Tuff Stuff Ranger RTT, which is about 220lbs. along with a hi lift, axe, and recovery boards to mount on. It's rated 440lbs dynamic, 880 static according to the manufacturer. The rack itself is about 110lbs

According to the post it looks like the 3rd gen (16 - 19) is the rack that has the cutout for the shark fin. I would try to contact the seller and ask but I hear they are sometimes hard to get a hold of. I think somebody affiliated with hooke offroad has a TW account but idk his username.

So far impressed with the rack. No leaks yet and have been through some rainy days since install...granted I dabbed all the holes with silicone during install. Wind noise really isn't bad at all. It seems on par with any large roof rack, it becomes noticable around 40 and at it's "worst" around 45-50 but even then it just sounds like you have a window cracked slightly (with the radio low as well). Highway speed it's barely noticable, between 60-70 I don't even realize it and my wife said the same thing. With the radio turned up to my normal volume for highway driving I don't even hear it.

This is all with no modification of any kind. (Door seals, weather stripping, etc)
