I am looking into replacing two of my bars for that reason so I can have the t-slots extrusion bars. I will let you know what I find out and if I can find an application that works.

holy moly 3 days later and iv made it to the end....and i decided to order one after looking at the cost of an OEM vs this...I really only need it for luggin around the canoe and kayaks, but the weight rating sold me on it...I think I'm gonna use the light for ditch lights and mount the 42 lightbar across the front... Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread!!!!

I also plan to mount it up, and then pull it off and hit it with some rock guard... one thing I did not see was a good option for tie-downs... has anyone added some eyelets or tie-down points? Would love to see some pictures or ideas for some solid anchor points for tying stuff down like kayaks.

What solar panels are those? I’m going to be picking this rack up soon and want to put a panel on it.

I really like the flush look of the ones you bought.

I was thinking about eye bolts in the existing holes for some tie down points. Probably easier than trying to fit a hook somewhere on the rack, or always wrapping a strap around the cross bars.

Bingo that would work eh? I imagine maybe bolt them on the side sticking out? or on top of a few rails...iv seen some track systems too, i was thinking maybe a guy bolt a track so you could have some flexibility.

I would mount them on the top, theres on a couple small square holes no the side (from memory).

These track systems come to mind if youre looking for more flexibility, just need to drill a few holes, they come in a few different lenghts.

I was about to pull the trigger on the steel rack from Hooke Road. Then I came across this video that mentioned they have an aluminum roof and bed rack hitting the market in 6 months (jump to 1:12 in the video). Looks like I’m holding out to see what the price is going to be on that.

I wouldn't bank on it being right/ issue free when they release it.

Very good point. I’m still debating on getting the original. It’s seen many iterations and they seem to have figured it out. I doubt there’s a ton of weight savings with the aluminum and I don’t think I need the T-slots.

if you can afford to wait and get others to review it, that might be the best course of action.

    They're Renogy 2x 100w compact solar panels.

Hit me up if you end up buying them and want more info on how I got the whole thing flush.

    Thanks!

might be a bit before I get them but definitely will. I’m probably going to pull one of the rear seats out to mount the power source since I don’t have a cap

eeeeh why not use a rail system that comes in the bed of our trucks? The rails and cleats show up all the time on this site and for really cheap. Those extrusions will cost you about the price of the rack itself

We were talking about strapping a canoe to the roof, so bed rails wouldnt really help that :D

I mean pick up some extra ones and bolt them to the rack. With the cleats you have a sliding cleat system. Would work nearly the same as using extrusions for a fraction of the cost.

EDIT: though, now that I look at those super clamps, they are really nice

EDIT2: Price isn't too far off either unless the seller is willing to go down in price
Gen2 bed rails & tie down holders | Tacoma World

One thing about using the bed rails is the amount of aftermarket and DIY accessories out there that utilize them. Now Im starting to think I might do this to be honest

I wonder if alu is even worth it. I mean the steel one is not light as a feather but it's also not stupid heavy either.
I'd rather not have weight up high to flip the truck but then again if you're carrying shit up there, that is going to add weight regardless.
I will say the steel one is strong enough to stand on. I don't know how strong aluminum would be. Or how much lighter.
I'm not sure the weight of the steel one. 30-40lbs maybe? IDK if they say on their website or if anyone has weighed theirs.
Plus if ever putting anything like a tent on top I imagine you'd want strength.
So far I've only used mine to move furniture including tying down a mattress. It was more convenient and made for less trips being able to tie stuff on top and in the bed, versus just in the bed and no roof rack.
