with the small yescom awning, I painted the brackets it came with black and got good stainless hardware. It mounted with no issue, I decided to drill a hole in the rack so it mounted exactly where I wanted it with an existing hole and the one I drilled. Now, if cost is an issue, I highly recommend the Napa awning. I got it delivered to my home for $95 and it feels like and compares to the arb awning. It’s also 8 ft long so double the shade and if I did it all over again, I would have gotten the Napa awning first because the yescom is small now that I’ve used it

Too much wind noise for me. It’s better to get Toyota roof rail

I saw a post above where you can slap some rubber door gasket material into the open slits all along the crossbars. That will help with the "airplane" noise.

    the front can be adjusted
it can have a rubber strip put on
    or LED light
    all said to reduce noise
or insulation applied to roof panel

the OEM bars are thin, flimsy plastic, that does not give much tie down points on the roof, nor a place to stand or put large size weight on
    they're also ugly

    maybe a Prinsu is quieter
    looks better
    costs more

i did rubber strip mod. It’s not working. All I need it for kayak so Toyota rail is fine.

I heard prinsu supposed quieter, but people used those rack for roof top tent. That won’t be quite either.

Looks like they dropped an access cab version!

Tacoma Access Cab Roof Rack for 2005-2021 Toyota Tacoma Gen 2/3 - Hooke Road

there are some pretty big differences from the 2021 DC version:

    • The cross bars dont have 3 long holes, this has 5 large rectangular holes with bolt holes in between
    • Wind deflector is a bit different
    • No LED bar cutout on the wind deflector
    • Holes on the side rails
    • Not as slim as the DC version. (3.38in vs. 3.82in)

Little late to the Hooke roof rack game, and having a hard time deciding whether to buy this version, or wait for this newer model restock, or this rumored aluminum version. My main concern with the older original model everyone has is the wind noise.

Saw this video and it seemed to have solved the issue, wondering if anyone had any other suggestions or tips on wind noise?

    https://youtu.be/Nsx3OmQ94Fc

    Thanks

When saw that video, it clicked in my mind how the Hooke Road rack had almost zero wind noise when I drove to Arizona with my paddle board on top of the truck. We had stuffed half a pool noodle between the rack and the cab of the truck to create padding for the paddle board. (as shown in my picture, further up in this thread)

Then when the rack is empty, it makes a slight whooshing. Now after seeing your Zombie Slayer video, I am wondering about pushing half a pool noodle all the way under a couple of the crossbars. Sort of like the old pool noodles I used to keep between my Mighty Max truck and the fiberglass camper shell. It tremendously reduced the wind noise in that former application. Testing will commence when the rain stops. If this works well, I will update here in a few days.

Pipe insulation is what I used.IMG_20210827_191114_930.jpgIt is fairly invisible there under the second crossbar.
    IMG_20210827_191151_137.jpg
Seems to block the wind and it is more subtle than a pool noodle.
IMG_20210827_191222_160.jpgI chose bigger diameter than pool noodles, I think it goes on two-inch pipe.

Could you post some pics of your truck with your roof rack? Considering this rack because of price but would like to see some more pictures from front

Love this roof rack. For the price it can’t be beat. I haven’t had it through a winter yet but I’m sure that all the salt on the roads here will cause some issues but I’ll find out soon enough, decided to go with the round pod lights on the front and ended up using the included square lights for ditch and reverse lights. So far I’ve only used it for kayaks but it seems solid enough as I can stand on one cross member and I feel it can hold plenty more. Sorry, I don’t have any up close photos.34A929EE-DC72-4B1C-A44F-0DFEC4AAFCCC.jpg
