    Workin' on it....
Been debating this myself and keep waffling back and forth between baja vs full hoops.

Subbed for tales of carnage and being saved by the hoop.....

Me too, trying to decide on which bumper to get.

Say, wasnt that a sitcom in the late 80's. "It's alright, cause I'm saved by the hoop!" I bet Slater had a hoop!

Yeah, I dig the tube work and most 2nd gen guys shy away. Bruteforce makes a nice one for 2nd gens (with a hoop)

Thanks for posting OP, I had the same question. I see a lot of people saying it's function over form, but I just don't see any realistic uses for them.

I got a plate bumper with no hoops. I think it looks much cleaner(especially on turd gen). MAYBE a single low-pro hoop in the middle, but the ones that wrap around the lights look ugly.(yes I know they offer more front end portection) but Unprotected is always better:p

IMO short hoops are purdy much useless...
except maybe for those whom drive poorly and thrash their way thru brush.

The real purpose of a hoop...
is to protect the radiator in the event of a roll over.

If it's a short little hoop... how could that be of any help ?

The super tall stinger hoops are designed for similar reason...
but also to increase the capability of crossing a crevice without completely falling into it. Lol

The Icelander's appreciate those stinger hoops when crossing those ice crevices.
Because they might have already fallen in... before realizing it was there !? Lol

Me personally... if I had no use or real purpose.
    I wouldn't bother installing a hoop.

Image does little to actually make things better.
(save yer money for the future repairs of the damage you've caused) Lol

This is what a guy who didn't get a hoop says when he wished he got one. Stop trying to bring everyone else down!

Lol... yer only feeling down... if ya have a short hoop :p

well... if ya roll yer junk over anyways

just don't roll it over... no hoop needed ;)

btw... once the radiator gets boogered...
you won't be driving off that trail. Lol

Ignoring the collapsed roof and missing windshield.
You could still drive it to the tow truck. :D

I was on a crash where a 700-800lb steer was hit by a early 2000's Chevy 1500 traveling at 55 mph. Truck was totaled, both front tires flat, front airbags deployed, and the radiator was pushed back into the engine. Definitely had frame damage. The fact @pyriteCO was able to drive away speaks volumes to the protection from a plate bumper.

If a hoop is too short... change it
