It may be an option within the trucks software to disable the feature in question. Tech stream is the software interface and the obdll is the hardware

Is it your actual horn that goes off?

Have you tried both with waiting 10 seconds and not waiting 10 seconds? Seems to me there are only 2 ways to interpret that, and by trying both ways you would be able to confirm.

I did this a few months back with success. I believe I waited the 10 seconds.

Do you have a valet button?

It sounds like there is an alarm installed on your vehicle. Toyota doesn't utilize the horn unless they install an aftermarket alarm.

I dont think that's accurate. My horn used to beep with locking/unlocking, and there is no aftermarket alarm on it. Just what came from the factory.

It may have an alarm form the factory then. Do you have the window tag from your original purchase?

I'm gonna try this as soon as I get off work.

Did you count 10 seconds while you clicked the lock/unlock button twice, or did you count 10 seconds AND THEN click the lock/unlock button?

I do have the Viper smartstart system, so while I do have the option of a silent lock/unlock: the process is quite lengthy and dependent on the system to receive the signal in the first place. (As our Tacomas require an unlock function twice to open a passenger side).

Just in case anyone is wondering how to go about this with a Viper fob: f key, unlock key (or lock).

4 buttons in succession to open a passenger door in silence = I need this to work!! Don't tease me!

I counted to 10 AND THEN clicked the fob twice

Step one: Open the drivers door and insert the key into the ignition

step two: Remove the key from the ignition and, within 5 seconds,
reinsert the key back into the ignition and switch to the on position.

Within 10 seconds, the system enters the answer-back mode

step four: Count to 10 after switching the key to ON and then press the remote twice and you should hear a long beep. This should turn off the horn feature

@TheLRZ, any luck with disabling your horn from honking during lock/unlock with a remote? I'm asking 'cause I have a 2013, as well.

    This procedure worked
For me! Only took a couple of times and had to have my door open.

Just want to make sure, is this for the beep or the honk? 'Cause I tried this method and it only affected the beep on mine.

Ahh I didn't read close enough, was only the beep on mine. I don't have the horn go off with my 09.

I took my 2017 into the dealer and they said it couldn’t be done - no horn on lock - there is only a buzz sound

Thread started in 2017, ended in '18. Some participants have not been around since.

Recommend starting with your owners manual. If you don't have it, it can be found in PDF form on Toyota's website.

    https://www.toyota.com/owners/resources/warranty-owners-manuals/tacoma/2006

If you still need help, a new thread in the 2nd gen forum would be next.
