Live in West TX and I recently bought this truck about 8 weeks ago out of a dealer in West Louisiana and I’m finding all sorts of “problems” bit by bit.
    0AD3E466-6031-426D-8BFF-EBC91E72D166.jpg
Feel like I got duped by the dealer, in there being very few 2014-15 TRD ORs for sale with options I wanted at or below 100k miles under $30k. IDK TBH.

For the amount of money I spent on it, I’m rather disappointed with a sizable list of repairs, that I’ll probably address elsewhere.

Badly enough, I found out in late August that the horn no longer works between the 11 and 1 o’clock positions and after a really bad experience off-roading last weekend, possibly even the driver’s side airbag (luckily didn’t deploy from G-force?).

Dealer was quoting me another $700 to replace it, after I had the truck towed in to replace the bent 4600 left side shock (shitty spacer block kit by prev owner(s) ).

Like I had been suspecting, it’s the damn clockspring cable aka 84306-0E010.

I opted to do it myself instead, but have yet to settle on the right part and comprehensive tool kit to buy (per TW), to be more of a DIY owner.

Starting a new job on Tuesday, also a bit more tied up than I anticipated next week.

Would this work on my 2015 TRD OR DCSB V6 4x4 6MT? Price just seems awfully low compared to dealer at $383 for the part.

So, I should probably just buy and get it over with?

I remember Toyota recalled these trucks under the older steering wheels, in the 2005-09 years.

Pretty unfair of Toyota to expect us all to replace a never ending defect of theirs at high cost, instead of including it under a comprehensive recall.

    Thanks @Dacapster

$383 because the dealer is making 40% retail profit on it...

Online dealers (e.g. Mcgeorge) sell it at reduced markups.

The aftermarket ones (down to the $30 eBay ones) will work but may have reduced life, as little as a year. I bought one as a sacrificial Dremel practice piece a few years ago before modifying my OEM clockspring to fit a JDM steering wheel.

Thanks, trying to figure if that part in my link is a good idea or a dumb risk to take, over guaranteed OEM.

Thanks a million 10thMTNgrunt! It’s good to start somewhere and that’s why I’m here, get good advice like this.

I’ve been off-roading twice LOL, but two different places. I went in and came out alright initially. Second time, I saw an old mid-late 80s 4x4 Toyota pickup decked out like an insurgent truck and got distracted from following a more known exit path.

This place had very soft sand and I’ve only driven Raptors there. Feeling nervous about getting stuck with less torque and likely sensitive clutch, I became a bit desperate to get out and ended up not braking enough on the way out, because I was afraid of high entering in one spot.

It happened really fast and I panicked when the truck landed forcefully. I kept moving, then realized something was wrong, as there was serious rubbing. After getting out of the course, guys in the old SFA Toyota told me that my shock box was damaged.

Got the hell outta there and then I called a tow to Toyota-Lexus service and they fixed it on Monday. Happened Saturday afternoon.

LOL, I wish I had that much fun. It was a case of frantically trying to avoid getting stuck in the thick sand dunes. Had that happen to me in my other Tacoma and didn’t want a repeat. Glad there was no damage that required comprehensive work.

Makes a lot of sense, thanks. I want to do it myself, but if I can get it done at a nearby AAA approved shop ASAP for cheaper labor, I guess that’ll do for now and I’ll save DIY for other stuff, like mods.

I prefer to go with guaranteed OEM - mostly because I don't wanna repair something 2x
This part in particular - I hate hate hate messing with the airbags; which is one big reason I haven't fixed mine yet..

Thanks everyone, I guess one of them will work right and if it goes bad again, hopefully years down the road.

Definitely have never needed the steering wheel airbag in my many years of driving and hope to never need it in this truck.

Once everything is done, can’t wait to jumpstart my build page.

If you give it much thought it is insane they combine horn stereo and airbags in one unit

@Captainskidmark , how you like your Detroit True Trac? Is it worth it? Was it an expensive install?
