Horn not working

    98 Tacoma SR5 horn not working. Horn relay brand new and horn fuse is new. Also horn is new. Any idea why it still doesn’t work?

    That’s what I’m thinking also. Could be the clock spring. All I’m hearing is a clicking when I push on my steering wheel. How complicated is changing the clock spring?

    yes there’s power to the horn

    I'm confused: if there is power to the horn, then everything between the horn and the steering wheel must be working correctly, leaving only the horn as the culprit. If you provide the horn with 12v directly from the battery, does it sound? If so, then there is not actually power to the horn in its present configuration.

    Perhaps the "horn" needs a little yellow or blue pill and 20 minutes to get ready................

    Seriously, chase the wiring and check horn with a direct connection to the battery.

    I've attached a diagram from a 1998 Electrical Circuit manual for a 1998 Tacoma.

    You said the horn is getting +12 volts and that you can hear a clicking when you operate the horn button. That tells me that the relay is working.

    How are you determining there's power to the horn?
    If you have 12V at the horn connector when pressing the horn down then:

    A) Your ground is bad
    B)The wire is not able to carry current due to wire integrity
    C) Your new horn doesn't work.

    Is it a full 12-13V? If so, disregard the following:

    Run a test wire straight from the battery over to the horn. A lot of us have a set of alligator clip test wires we use for this sort of thing. If the horn doesn't work: either it's not grounded; it's broken internally; the wire coming to the horn is damaged somewhere, and not carrying enough amperage to sound the horn.

    If there is a full 12V to the horn, either not grounded, or it's just failed internally.

    Did you figure out the problem?

    mine is the same issue as yours,

    my problem is every once in a while horns works,

    when the horns don’t work there is a clicking sound when the horn is pushed,

    I have the same issues.
    Grounds are good,
    New horns,
    New wires,
    Power is good 12v when the horn is pushed,

    so maybe relay or clock spring?

    So the whole clockspring needs to be replaced?

    That’s what the stealer did, I’ll caveat with this was before TW and me DIYing everything - so I may not be the best to ask for this situation

    edit: did take a couple trips to diagnose - but CS replacement fixed it

    If you have power when the horn is depressed to the Horn connection it is not the Clock Spring .

    The sound your hearing is the relay pulling in when the horn is depressed.

    The Horns ground through the bolt How are you Checking your Ground?It might read fine with the meter but still not make a complete circuit when attached.

    You did check the function of the horns before installing ?

    Intermittent Ground or open circuit.

    I have never had a clock spring fail I guess some horns get used much more then mine.

    The horns were working occasionally 10 percent of the time. I ran new wires with a hella horn setup and new horns,

    still having the same results working occasionally,

    thanks for that info on the clockspring because it shows power 12 v when I press the horn.

    I will try a new relay then if I can find the location for the 97 year for the relay. It’s somewhere up by the flasher I think

    If your getting battery voltage at the horn connection 100% of the time it is not the relay . When testing you do rotate the steering wheel through the full 360 degrees ?

    Do the Hella Horns ground via the hardware like our Original Horns??

    Got it fixed, one of the connector to the hella relay was not crimped hard enough,
